Start-Up Procedures.
The suction valve should be open.
Ensure that Priming should be performed properly.
The re-circulation valve or spill-back line should be opened.
When the pump reached normal operating speed open the discharge valve slowly.
The liquid is brought into the pump by venting the casing.
The suction line should be full of liquid to be pumped.
The direction of rotation should be checked by the ON-OFF switch.
The pump should started-up with the aid of a prime mover.
Check the pump During running and regulate if
required
The pump is running smooth.
The bearing are not getting abnormally hot of both pump and motor.
The flow of cooling liquid and cooling water is uninterrupted in case of mechanical seal
type pump.
Ensure motor current to be within limit.
Ensure there is no mechanical friction in the pump or abnormal sound.
The gland is properly tightened to ensure sufficient leakage to dissipate heat
generated. Maximum permissible leakage is 60 to 80 drops per minute.
Stop the pump immediately, if any, defects or abnormally found or detected. Rectify the
defect and restart the pump.
Shutdown Works.
When a pump operates against a high discharge pressure the following steps are
to be adopted to shut down the pump.
Close the valve on delivery line.
Shut off the power.
As soon as the power is off, close the discharge valve fully.
Do not shut off the cooling and sealing liquid Supply until the shaft has stopped
turning fully.
