Luisa’s Big Problem
Luisa is starting a new job in four days. She was a florist
before she moved to San Diego. Now she’s the new manager of
a neighborhood flower shop.
Luisa has a big problem. She needs childcare for her
children. Her daughter, Alicia, is four years old. Her son, Paco,
is three years old. Luisa’s family lives far away, so they can’t
help her with childcare. She thinks, What am I going to do?

playground a lot.
Luisa knows one of the other mothers at the playground.
Her name is Anna. Luisa knows that Anna works in a grocery
store. Today Luisa asks Anna, “What do you do for childcare?”
“My mother takes care of my children when I work,” Anna
tells her.

“I know someone! Her name is Mildred Pringle,” Anna
tells Luisa. “She cares for children in her home. She lives near
