Addition of Integers

1) The lesson plan is for a 7th grade mathematics class on adding integers. It includes objectives, subject matter, procedures, and an assignment. 2) Students will learn to add integers with the same and different signs through activities using tiles, cards, and an example word problem. 3) Evaluation includes multiple choice questions testing students' understanding of adding integers in different scenarios.

Presentation

“Adding Integers”

ACTIVITY

A. Addition of integers using signed tiles.

This is another device that can be used to represent integers. The tile +
represents integer 1, the tile - represents -1, and the flexible + -
represents 0.

Examples:
+ + + + + + + + +
1.) 4 + 5 + =9

2.) (-2) + (-4)

- - - - - -
+ = -6
3.) 5 + (-3)
+ + + + + - - -
+ = -2

B. Addition of integers using cards

Black Cards represents positive integers and Red Cards represents negative
integers.

Example:

C. Problem Solving
A vendor gained P5.00 on the first day; lost P28.00 on the second day. How much
profit did the vendor gain in 2 days?

ANALYSIS
1. How to add integers with the same sign?
2. How to add integers with different signs?
ABSTRACTION
RULES IN ADDING INTEGERS
1. If the integers have the same sign, just add the positive equivalents of the integers and
attach the common sign to the result.
2. If the integers have different signs, get the difference of the positive equivalents of the
integers and attach the sign of the larger number to the result.

APPLICATION
Mechanics: Students will be grouped into 3 groups, a group of good in singing, a group of
good in dancing, and group of good in acting. The work should be presented according to
group’s talent.

Group of Singers: Compose a song about adding integers.

Group of Dancers: Give an interpretation of the given song through dance.
Title: Adding Integers with the tune of “Row row your boat”
Group Actors: Solve the given problem and deliver it through acting.
Group of Actors: Solve the given problem and deliver it through acting.
Problem: Gina went to the market to buy fruits for their outing. She bought mango
worth 30 pesos and banana with the price of 25 pesos per kilogram. How much did she spent
for a fruits?

VALUING
1. What are the positive and negative things happened in your home?
2. In School, what do you think are the positive values you had learned?
3. How about in terms of our country, what are the current issues happened? Is it
positive or negative?
GENERALIZATION
1. What is the rule in adding integers with like sign?
2. What is the rule in adding integers with unlike sign?
