THE SYSTEM UNIT
A System unit also known as a base unit, is electronic circuitry housed within the computer cabinet.  It is the part of the
microcomputer that contains the Central Processing Unit (CPU).

THE INTERNAL FEATURES OF THE SYSTEM UNIT

Is the main body of a personal computer, typically consisting of a plastic/metal enclosure containing the following:
1. Motherboard,
2. power supply,
3. cooling fans,
4. internal disk drives,
5. the memory modules and
6. expansion cards that are plugged into the motherboard such as video and network cards.

THE EXTERNAL FEATURES OF SYSTEM UNITS

The external parts of system units include:
1.         The power button
2.         Reset button
3.         The key lock
4.         The Drives
5.         The Ports

POWER BUTTON
The power button is pressed to put the system ON or OFF.  It is used to start the system from scratch.

RESET BUTTON
Reset button is used to initialize the system.  The button is pressed to restart the system.
THE KEY LOCK
The key lock is used to PUT ON and OFF the computer.  When the key lock is in OFF mode, the system cannot accept data.
For the system to accept data, the key lock must be on.
THE DRIVES
The disk drive is a part or device on which disks are loaded and run.  It enables us to use compact disks and diskettes.
A computer has more than one drive e.g. A: – Floppy disk drive, C: – Hard disk drive,D: – Compact disk drive etc.
THE PORTS
These are sockets on the outside of the system unit into which you can plug a terminal or some other input/output devices.
They are the areas where peripheral devices are connected to the system unit.  Ports are used to connect the keyboard, the
mouse, the monitor, the printer, etc.

CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT

The CPU is a processing device found inside the system unit. It is mounted on the motherboard which is also inside the
system unit. The function of a CPU is to perform the processing of data received from the input devices. The major
components of the CPU are as follows:
1. Arithmetic and Logic Unit (ALU)
2. Control Unit
3. Memory Unit

TYPES OF SYSTEM UNIT

The system units of microcomputers are of different shapes. These include the following:
(i)       Desktop
(ii)       Tower

DESKTOP
These are small enough to fit on top or along the side of a desk and yet are too big to carry around.

TOWER
Tower casing system unit is a little bit taller than the desktop, hence, it is placed under the table or on the floor.

Styles and themes are powerful tools in Word that can help you easily create professional looking documents. A
style is a predefined combination of font style, color, and size of text that can be applied to selected text. A
theme is a set of formatting choices that can be applied to an entire document and includes theme colors, fonts,
and effects.

To Select a Style:
1. Select the text that you want to format.
2. In the Style group on the Home tab, hover over each style to see a live preview in the document. Click the
More drop-down arrow to see additional styles.
3. Select the style you desire. Now the selected text appears formatted in the style.

To Apply a Style Set:

Style Sets include a combination of title, heading, and paragraph styles. Style sets allow you to format all the
elements of your document at once, rather than formatting your title and headings separately.
1. Click the Change Styles command on the Ribbon. A drop-down menu will
appear.
2. From the drop-down menu, select Style Set.

What is a Theme?
A theme is a set of colors, fonts and effects that applies to the entire document to give it a consistent,
professional look. You've already been using a theme, even if you didn't know it: the default Office
theme. Every theme, including the Office theme, has its own theme elements:
Why Should You Use Theme Elements?
If you're using theme elements, you'll probably find that your document looks pretty good and all of the colors
work well together, which means you don't have to spend as much time tweaking the document. But there's
another great reason to use theme elements: When you switch to a different theme, all of those elements will
update to reflect the new theme. You can drastically change the look of the document in a couple of clicks, and it
will usually still look good.
