Dec_2015 CSC208

USN 2 B V

VII Semester B.E. Examination

(Computer Science and Engineering)
Microcontroller and its Applications (CSC208)
Duration: 3 hours Max. Marks: 100
Note: i) Answer any TWO full questions from UNIT-I, any TWO full questions from
UNIT-II and any ONE full question from UNIT-III.
ii) Missing data may be suitably assumed.
UNIT-I

1 a. With neat diagram, explain external data moves and also list the syntax for
external data moves. (08 marks)

b. Explain the architecture of 8051, using neat diagram. (08 marks)

c. Write an ALP, to set every third byte of internal RAM address 20H to 7FH with
FFH. (04 marks)

2 a. With neat diagram, explain the internal RAM organization in 8051 and also detail
the structure of PSW with function of each bit. (08 marks)

b. Write an ALP to check whether string of length 7 bytes stored in RAM location
50H onwards is palindrome. If it is palindrome then display ‘Y’ on P1. (08 marks)

c. Write an ALP to put AAH into RAM locations 0100H – 0200H.

(04 marks)

3 a. Write an ALP to arrange 10 bytes of data in ascending order. (08 marks)

b. With neat diagram, explain Port 0 and Port 1 operations. (08 marks)

c. List all bit and byte level jump instructions, with an example for each. (04 marks)

UNIT-II

4 a. With neat diagram, explain level triggered and edge triggered interrupts.
(08 marks)

b. Write an 8051 C program using interrupts to do the following:

i. Generate 10 KHz frequency on P2.1 using T0 in mode 2.
ii. Use timer 1 as an event counter to count up 1Hz pulse and display
it on P0. The pulse is connected to EX1. (08 marks)

c. Write an 8051 C program for the checksum byte calculation of the following
data. 0x22, 0x35, 0x66 and 0x78 (04 marks)

5 a. Write an ALP to generate waveform whose first cycle period is 40ms and it will
iterate once, second cycle period is 20ms and it will iterate twice, and this kind of
waveform is generated continuously on P2.5. Assume XTAL= 22MHz. Use
timer1 in mode1 to generate delay. (08 marks)

Page 1
b. Write an ALP to transfer serially the message “PEACE OF MIND”, continuously
at 5700 bps. (08 marks)

c. Write the structure of SCON and PCON register. Give function of every bit. (04 marks)

6 a. Write an 8051 C program to monitor switch connected to P1.7. If it is open then

bring in data serially via P1.0, LSB should come first. If switch is closed then
send out data 0x65 serially ia P1.0, MSB should go first. (08 marks)

b. Assume that 2Hz external clock is being fed into pin T1 (P3.5). Write a C
program for counter 0 in mode 2 to display count in ASCII. The 8 bit binary
count is to be converted to ASCII. Display the ASCII value on P0, P1 and P2,
where P0 is LSB. Set initial count as zero. (08 marks)

c Write the sequence of steps for executing interrupt. (04 marks)

UNIT-III

7 a. Interface DIP switch and 8051 microcontroller. Write an 8051 C program to read
data from DIP switch and display status on LCD. Write all LCD functions. (10marks)

b. Write an 8051 C program to interface 8051 with a seven segment display to

display BCD up counter on seven segment display. (10 marks)

8 a. Write an 8051 C program to interface ADC with 8051 and LCD to display output
of ADC on the LCD. (10 marks)

b. Write an 8051 C program to interface 4x4 hex keypad and display key pressed on
LCD. (10 marks)
