2.1. A 10 cm length of a K-band copper waveguide is filled with a dielectric material with
𝜖𝑟 = 2.55 and tanδ = 0.0015. If the operating frequency is 15 GHz, determine:
2.1.1. The total loss through the guide [6]
2.1.2. The phase delay from the input to the output of the guide. [1]

3.1. Show that the input impedance Z of the parallel RLC circuit in Figure 1 satisfies the
condition that Z(−ω) = Z∗(ω). [4]

3.2. Determine the scattering parameters of the 3 dB attenuator circuit shown in


Figure 2. [6]

3.3. Find the ABCD matrix for the circuit in Figure 3 by direct calculation using the
definition of the ABCD matrix, and compare with the ABCD matrix of the
appropriate cascade of canonical circuits from Table 5. [7]

3.4. At reference plane A, in Figure 4, let the reference impedance be 50 Ω. Find the
power wave amplitudes, and compute the power delivered to the load. Assume the
transmission line is lossless. [8]

QUESTION 4

4.1. Design a single-section quarter-wave matching transformer to match a 10 Ω load [6]


to a 50 Ω transmission line at f0 = 3 GHz. Determine the percentage bandwidth for
which the SWR ≤ 1.5.

4.2. Design a three-section binomial transformer to match a 50 Ω load to a 100 Ω line


and calculate the bandwidth for 𝑚 = 0.05. [10]

4.3. Design a three-section Chebyshev transformer to match a 100Ω load to a 50Ω line
and calculate the bandwidth for 𝑚 = 0.05. [10]
