FEP ES Guide LUTs
FEP ES Guide LUTs
8 custom LUTs to give your footage that Hollywood look and make your color grading
faster, easier and more professional.
LUTs come in two flavours, 1D and 3D. Don’t worry about the 1D luts, we’re here for the 3D ones! They come
in different resolutions, 17, 33 and 65. The latter is the highest quality but puts the most strain on your
computer. 33 is a really nice balance.
It’s important that you use the correct LUT for your footage. You’ll want find the LUT that corresponds to
your camera’s colour space (i.e. S-Log 3). But wait, there’s one more thing to check! We need to make sure
the LUT will convert the footage into the color space you are working in (most probably Rec709). Look out for
the numbers 709 (or rec709, or BT709) in the LUT name. Some manufactures will provide several compatible
LUTs with slightly different contrast and colour responses. Play around, find the LUT you like the most. But
ALWAYS makes sure you use a LUT designed for your colour space, otherwise it will damage the colours in
your image.
2. Make sure your footage has been converted from your camera’s color space to Rec709. This will require
the use of a basic transformation LUT. You’ll want to apply one that matches your camera’s output and
transforms the footage to Rec709. Some editing software will include these (DaVinci Resolve) and in other
programs you’ll want to install them. Fortunately, they’re free and are provided by all the major camera
manufacturers. Here are links to download these transformation LUTs by camera and color space:
