PROJECTS CATEGORIES
• Computer Arts (Middle School and High School)
Computer arts (aka digital arts) is an artistic presentation
process where you can include drawings, designs, and 2D or 3D
animations.

• Programming (Middle School, High School and University)

Planning. Coding. Debugging. Programming. If you think you're up to the
challenge and able to create a working program from top to bottom, you
should definitely give it a try! Web-Based Programming, Apps, or Desktop
Applications are included in this category.

• Hardware Control (Middle School, High School and University)

Create a control software or connect it to an electronic/mechanic device. Also,
Robotics projects are welcome in this category.
• Science Communication (Middle School and High School)
Students choose a topic related to a science/technology fact of their
liking. They research about it and prepare diverse materials to explain it to
any type of audience with the objective of understanding it and
appropriating of its meaning. The inclusion of a prototype or visual aids,
as well as documentedmaterial in the project is primordial.

Example: Project POMPEII – which may consist in explaining what happened, the possible causes,
what generated the eruption, how it affected at social, political, economic and environmental
levels, how the consequences could have been avoided or lessened, what is suggested to prevent
possible similar situations in today’s world. As support materials, they might have a physical
prototype of a volcano erupting, an informational flyer, an interview with a volcanologist, etc. It’s
up to the students’ imagination and creativity.

• Short Movie (Middle School and High School)

Create a video (short film, up to 7 minutes) in which you will convey your
message in a story enhanced with visual and audial effects. Include English
subtitles.

• Science Project (Middle School, High School and University)

In this category, participants are expected to develop proposals, innovations,
materials, or products, as a consequence of studying one of the various
branches of science, such as: biology, physics, chemistry, medicine, health,
earth science or engineering.

The difference between a Science Project and Science Communication category is basically that, a
Science Project is focused on proposing an innovation method or solving real-life problems, while
Science Communication is related to explaining a topic, historical event, emphasizing a concept, or
sustaining a known theory or law.

ROBOTICS CATEGORIES
• Robotics Lego Line Follower (Middle School and High School)
It’s a competition where the participant builds their own robot with only Lego
Mindstorm (NTX, EV3, 15151, Spike) materials in a maximum of 20 cm per side
size. The robot has to be coded to detect and follow a black line as fast as
possible.
• Robotics Free Line Follower (Middle School and High School)
The participant must design and program a robot capable of detectingand following a path
traced by a black line, as quickly as possible.

• Robotics Lego Sumo (Middle School and High School)

It’s a competition where two robots built with only Lego Mindstorm
(NXT o EV3) materials, known as sumo-bots, attempt to push each
other out of an arena using sensors, clever programming, and
innovative design. The arena for the contest is a 77 cm-diameter circle,
and the timegiven for each round is 3 minutes.

• Robotics Free Maze (Middle School and High School)

A robot is designed to solve a maze, finding a path without any assistance or
help. As a type of autonomous robot, it has to decode the path on its own to
solve the maze with success. Any participant-built robot is accepted, the width of
the path is at least 20 cm, through 15 cm tall white walls.

ROBOTICS CATEGORIES QUALIFICATIONS

The robotics categories will have a first-round, from which whoever gets the
best score/time will advance to the final stage.
