FIRST SEMESTER 2022-2023

Course Handout
Date: 11-08-2023
In addition to part-I (General Handout for all courses appended to the time table), this portion gives further
specific details regarding the course.
Course No. : ME F212
Course Title : FLUID MECHANICS
Instructors : Sayan Das
Instructor-in-Charge : Sayan Das
Tutorial Instructors : Sayan Das, Pardha Saradhi G V, N Jalaiah, Supradeepan K
Scope and Objective of the Course:
Fluid Mechanics deals with the fundamental laws governing the mass, momentum and energy transfer. The
objective of this course is to lay a solid foundation in understanding the properties and behaviour of fluids by
means of integral and differential equations along with specific applications related to turbomachines as fluid
systems. Since these three phenomena (mass, momentum and energy) are very similar in nature, an integrated
approach would not only conserve efforts but also contributes to a greater understanding of this subject. In this
course, more emphasis will be given to fluids and its motion in a given system.
Textbooks:
1. Frank M White, "Fluid Mechanics", Tata McGraw-Hill, 7th Edition, 2012.
