Grade/Section: Grade 9 – Courage 1 Parent’s Signature: ______________
The energy needed to keep our bodies warm and to run various metabolic activities
comes from the biomolecules that we eat: carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The following table
shows the recommended dietary requirement for adolescents.
Instructions:
1. Collect five wrappers/labels of the foods (e.g., noodles, corn chips, potato chips, bread,
biscuits, etc.) that you commonly consume. Complete the information in the table by listing
down the values indicated in the label.
2. If the values are not given in calories, change the value using the following:
Fats = 9 cal/g; Carbohydrates= 4 cal/g; Proteins: 4 cal/g
Questions:
1. Which provides the greatest amount of nutrients? What is your basis in saying so?
- The Hotcake, as it contains the most carbohydrates, a significant number of proteins, and
little to no fats. Because they do also contain the most carbohydrates, chocolate cookies
come in second; In my opinion, crackers do have a better protein value than the cookies,
but the majority of the fat in them is unhealthy saturated fat or bad cholesterol, which
could have negative long-term effects.
2. Which conforms to the dietary requirement of an adolescent like you? Explain your
answer.
- Hotcake is ideal for breakfast because it contains a lot of excellent carbs that will give
you energy all day, and energy is the thing that most adolescent need to complete and
have a productive day at school or even in our home. The canned giniling for lunch
since it has the most protein and is good for growth and development. Let's not also
forget to drink liquids like water to stay hydrated and aid in the breakdown of solid
foods in our body.
3. If some of the foods do not conform to your daily requirement, what should you do to
satisfy the requirements?
- To be quite honest, the things I've listed on the chart aren't the healthiest for our
bodies. Eating home-cooked meals that are more organic and provide a lot of
nutrients to our bodies, since they are fresh and unprocessed is still beneficial. Long-
term effects of eating instant food include the development of cancer cells in our
bodies. We can still consume these meals, but only in moderation and not
continuously. Pair these items with fruit or vegetable shakes to meet the nutritional
needs. You can also eat nuts or raisins with them to increase the protein content. It is
important to keep in mind that these processed foods shouldn't be considered a
complete meal and shouldn't be consumed every day. It is still preferable to set aside
time to prepare wholesome foods for the benefit of our bodies and immune systems.
