Major Project

This document is a report submitted by 6 students for their minor project on building a steam generator engine. It includes sections on acknowledgements, introduction, objectives, tools used, assembly and working, advantages, and conclusion. The students followed 37 steps to assemble the engine using common household items like a can, syringe, candle, and motor to demonstrate how steam is used to power movement through reciprocating motion. The aim was to generate energy from steam and learn about steam engines while converting heat energy to other forms.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First and foremost, we express our heartfelt gratitude to our project guide ,

Prof. Mithilesh kr. & Pravin kr. , Assistant Professor , department of mechanical

Engineering , for his valuable guidance , support and encouragement during the

course of the project and in the prepration of the report . We have greatly

benefited from his experience and knowledge.

INTRODUCTION
Steam engines are external combusion engines where the working of fluids is
seperated from the combusion products. It performs the mechanical work by
using steam as its working fluids . 1781 james watt patend a steam engine that
produced continuous rotative motion . Watts 10 hp engines enabled a wide
range of manufacturing machineries to be powered the engines could be sited
anywhere that water and coal or wood fuel could be obtained.by applied to the
vechiles such as traction engines and the railway locomotives .the stationary
steam engine was a key component of the industrial revolution , allowing
factories to locate where water power was unavailable .

Although the reciprocating steam engine is no longer in widespread

commercial use, various companies are exploring or exploiting the potential of
the engine as an alternative to internal combustion engine . The company
energygoprojectab in sweden has made progress in using modern materials for
harnessing the power of steam . T he efficiency of energygoproject’s steam
engine reaches some 27 to 30 percent on high pressure engine . It is a single step
5-cylider engine[no compound] with superheated steam and consumes approx 4
kg of steamper kwh.
TOOLS AND INSTRUMENTS
1- A PLYWOOD OF LENGTH 50 CM AND BREADTH 30 CM
2- A 5 VOLT MOTOR (DC MOTOR)
3- A SPOKE OF BYCYCLE
4- A CAN OF COLDRINKS ( LIKE PEPSI OR COKE)
5- 2 PIECES OF CANDLE
6- A SYRINGE WITHOUT NEEDLE
7- GLUE GUN AND MCEAL

OBJECTIVES

1- TO GENERATE ENERGY FROM STEAM

2- TO LEARN ABOUT THE WORKING OF STEAM ENGINE
3- TO CONVERT HEAT ENERGY IN OTHR FORM OF ENERGY
ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATIONS AND WORKING

1- Put the plyboard on the ground .

2- Take some small part of cardboard and stand them at some distance
with the help of glue.
3- Connect the cd with dc motor then do a small hole in it away from
centre with the help of spoke .
4- Bend the spoke in l shape and put it in cd .
5- Paste the spoke in cd .
6- Do a samall hole in pipe of syringe with the help of spoke .
7- Put the l part of spoke in hole of pipe of syringe .
8- Do a small hole in can and and in front part of syringe and put water in
can .
9- Connect thr front part of syringe with the hole of can with the help a
cylindrical metal tube .
10- Burn candle down the can which contain water .
11- Since the can is isolated so steam comes out through the only hole of
can with high speed and it reciprocates the pipe of syringe.
12- Since the pipe of syringe is connect through cd it provides thrust and
the cd starts moving which is connected through motor .
13- Since the lights are connected through motor so they starts blowing.
14- Put the plyboard on the ground .
15- Take some small part of cardboard and stand them at some distance
with the help of glue.
16- Connect the cd with dc motor then do a small hole in it away from
centre with the help of spoke .
17- Bend the spoke in l shape and put it in cd .
18- Paste the spoke in cd .
19- Do a samall hole in pipe of syringe with the help of spoke .
20- Put the l part of spoke in hole of pipe of syringe .
21- Do a small hole in can and and in front part of syringe and put water in
can .
22- Connect thr front part of syringe with the hole of can with the help a
cylindrical metal tube .
23- Burn candle down the can which contain water .

26- Since the lights are connected through motor so they starts blowing.
27- Put the plyboard on the ground .
28- Take some small part of cardboard and stand them at some distance
with the help of glue.
29- Connect the cd with dc motor then do a small hole in it away from
centre with the help of spoke .
30- Bend the spoke in L shape and put it in cd .
31- Paste the spoke in cd .
32- Do a samall hole in pipe of syringe with the help of spoke .
33- Put the l part of spoke in hole of pipe of syringe .

ADVANTAGES

1- It helps us to understand the concept of heat engines.

2- We can covert heat energy in other forms of energy like electrical energy .
3- It teaches us about law of conservation of energy.
4- Small in size.

CONCLUSION

Concluding the project uo to now after research we found that there are many

types of steam engines which is used for various purposes so we decide to make

a general layout of it which shows how it works. To make this we arrange the

eqipment which is reqired from the market and MAKE IT AS FAR AS WE CAN DO.
