 Conclusions

6.0 EXECUTION OF THE QUALIFICATION PROGRAM

PAUT shall be carried out in accordance to PAUT procedure MM-ZTK-1D-GEN-QAC-PDR -

6078.

6.1. Preparation of the PAUT inspection procedure and documents

An Phased Array Ultrasonic Inspection Procedure shall be prepared that documents

the identification and sizing for all imperfections anticipated for the welding system.

The following item and documents shall be supplied:

 Qualification welds: Partial pipe OD.600xT20 – Sing vee/Single side Welded, Plate
L300xT40 – Double vee/Double side Welded

 PAUT procedure

 PAUT calibration blocks (see Appendix II)

 PAUT scan plan for qualification welds

 PAUT personnel certificate

 PAUT instrument certificate

6.2. Set-up & Calibration system

The inspection system shall provide an adequate number of inspection functions to

ensure the complete volumetric examination of the weld in once or few scan(s).

The scan plan shall be establish accordance to configuration weld before calibration
and scanning. The calibration data shall be documented with at least the date, time,
block identified and name of the PAUT technician.

Detail selection for setup and qualification as below:

 Omniscan MX2 equipment shall be testing partial pipe OD 600xT20 and plate
L300xT40

 TD focus equipment shall be testing partial pipe OD 600xT20 and plate L300xT40

PAUT probes selection:

 For thickness from 8 to 15mm A15, A10 probes can be used

 For thickness from 12 to 40mm A12, A2 probes can be used

 For thickness more than 20mm S19, A12 probes can be used

6.3. Inspection of welds containing defects

All the welds as part of the agreed PAUT qualification program shall be examined in
accordance with the applied and accepted PAUT inspection procedure.

Seed defect for qualification weld shall be submit to client review before manufacturing
and demonstration (see Appendix III)

A calibration shall be made before the test welds are scanned.

The Reference Direction Arrow shall define the inspection direction for datum.

6.4. Evaluation of PAUT inspection results

The start position, as referenced to 0, and dimensions in direction shall be defined in

metric units. Care should be exercised to assure that the scanner start point (first probe
in the probe array) is as close as possible to the start reference position.

The PAUT technician shall highlight all relevant imperfections and document the
imperfections with at least the following information (type, length, defect location from
OD and/or ID surface, circumferential location (mm or cm, etc.).

The following information should be available on the PAUT result presentation:

 Weld identification

 Date and time of PAUT inspection

Imperfection Evaluation follow

 Imperfection Length:

Defects length shall be sized using 6dB drop methodology. The defect indication
shall be highlighted and zoomed on the C scan or B scan image and the
reference curser shall be used to determine the 6dB boundary at either end of
the defect

The 6dB boundary shall be determined by moving the reference cursor to the
peak of the defect response and recording the amplitude (the amplitude shall be
less than 100%) then move the cursor toward the ends of the defect until the
amplitude drops to less half the recorded peak amplitude, move the cursor back
toward the peak until the signal breaks the 50% of peak position (6dB), mark
these positions. The distance between each ends is 6dB boundary.
 Imperfection Depth

The depth of Imperfection is measured from the surface of the sample to the
bottom of the imperfection.

The depth of a imperfection will be measured on S-scan image:

6.5. Radiographic Examination and Evaluation of Radiographs

Radiographic examination shall be carried out in accordance to procedure MM-ZTK-

1D-GEN-QAC-PDR-6072;

All qualification welds shall be radiographed.

The coordinate system for RT shall be identical to the coordinate system to be applied

for PAUT.

The Reference Direction Arrow shall define the direction of inspection for RT, and shall

be at the same location and in the same direction as used for the PAUT inspection.

The film shall contain identifications with at least the following information:

 Weld identification

 Date of testing

The film quality shall be reviewed and accepted/rejected by the interpreter.

The interpreter shall interpret the RT film and note all relevant imperfection. the
imperfection (type, length, etc.) shall be documented.

7.0 REPORTING OF RESULTS

The Radiographic Inspection Films and the PAUT images shall be evaluated/interpreted and
reported in a tabular form as illustrated in Appendix I (comparison NDT results).
