Land Transport

Land transportation in the Philippines primarily consists of jeepneys, buses, taxis, trains, and motorcycles. Jeepneys are colorful, iconic vehicles that serve as shared transport within cities and short-distance routes. Buses ply longer intercity routes and overnight trips. Taxis operate within city limits. Train systems like the MRT, LRT, and PNR connect Metro Manila. Motorcycles and tricycles provide transport in areas not served by other options. Bicycles with sidecars are also used in some areas as non-motorized transport.

LAND TRANSPORT FACILITIES

CHUBS RAM SI
1 Introduction to Land Transportation

2 Advantages and Disadvantages

3 Common Modes of Transportation in the Philippines

4 Rail Transportation
Land transport is the transport or movement of

01 people, animals or goods from one location to

another location on land. The two main forms of land
transport can be considered to be rail transport and
road transport.

Land transport' covers all land-based transportation systems

that provide for the movement of people, goods and services,

02 and includes the following:

1. road networks from the state highways to local roads

2. rail networks
3. provisions for pedestrians and cyclists
4. public transport networks (services and infrastructure)..
HISTORY OF LAND TRANSPORTATION

It started from simple The combination of the horse CHARIOT- Sumerians

strides, taming wild and the wheel made were the first men to
horses and invention transportation system simple as first experience wheel
of the wheel. it facilitated exchange of crops.. transportation.

ROAD TRANSPORT
Road transportation
is still the most
heavily used mode
of freight delivery
service in most
areas.

•Roadways are a crucial means of transport .They

provide people and vehicles to commute a wide range
of locations and help them to reach their destination
without any hiccups. Road transport is the process of
transporting goods or people from one destination to
the other via roads.
2 Advantages and Disadvantages
ADVANTAGES:
1.Less Capital Expense:
There are many advantages to road transport services when compared
to other modes of transport. When you look at the capital required for
road transport, it is very less than the other means of transport like air,
water or rail.
2.Door to Door Service:
The unmatched benefit of road transport is that it gives door to door
service for all the freight deliveries. Road transport is the only
extensive system that gives transportation to the final destination.
ADVANTAGES:
3.Service in Remote Areas:
Road transport is best applicable for transporting goods to and
from remote areas that are not connected by other means like rail,
air or water transports. The trade-off for goods between cities and
small villages happens majorly via road transport.
4.Flexibility:
Road transport possesses has a huge benefit from other modes of
transport, that is the flexibility which it provides. The routes and timings
can be altered easily and quickly according to individual needs without
much problem.

5.Suitable for Short Distance:

Road transport provides a faster and less costly means of transporting
goods over short distances. Other modes of transport like water, air or
rail may incur delays in transit of goods with loading and reloading
required in multiple locations.
ADVANTAGES:
6.Lesser Risk of Damage in Transit:
As the multiple instances of loading and reloading are negated, there
would be very little chance of harm to the transported goods.

7.Packing charges saved:

The procedure of packing the goods in road transport is very
minimal while compared to other means of transport, where they
would need to ensure safety for multiple loading and unloading
process.,

8.Rapid Speed:
If you need to transport goods with short notice, then road
transport is much preferred that rail or water transport. With the
other transports, it requires extra time to book the goods and
taking their delivery.

9.Less total cost:

With road transport, you will not only need only less investment to start
with but the capital for operating and maintenance is relatively less.
ADVANTAGES:
10.Initiating own road service.
Another benefit of road transport is that if you have frequent delivery
of your products or any other business-related items, then you can
start your road services by your private vehicles, according to your
capital investments.

11.Connecting other Modes of Transport:

Even if air or rail transports may be used for long-distance
transports, the end destinations in both the starting and end phase
require the use of road transport. It acts as a connecting link to
other modes of transport.
DISADVANTAGE
1.Seasonal Nature:
Motor transport is not as reliable as rail transport. During rainy or flood
season, roads become unfit and unsafe for use.
2. Accidents and Breakdowns:
There are more chances of accidents and breakdowns in case of motor
transport. Thus, motor transport is not as safe as rail transport.
3. Unsuitable for Long Distance and Bulky Traffic:
This mode of transport is unsuitable and costly for transporting cheap and
bulky goods over long distances.
4.Slow Speed:
The speed of motor transport is comparatively slow and limited.
5. Lack of Organisation:
The road transport is comparatively less organised. More often, it is irregular
and undependable. The rates charged for transportation are also unstable
and unequal.
3 Common Modes of Transportation in the Philippines
1. Jeepneys and Multicabs

The colorful, iconic jeepney is

the hallmark of Philippine
transportation. Every foreign
traveler should at least try a
jeepney ride and experience
how it feels to ride a
sometimes cramped, open-
window transport where
passengers pass around fare or
change to and from the driver,
and say either “Bayad Po”
(here’s the fare) and “Para Po”
(please pull over).
2. BUSES

Buses ply longer routes from the

city to the countryside and
distant provinces. It’s the main
mode of transport for land trips
that last an hour to several
hours, or overnight. There are
specific terminals and
unloading/loading spots for
buses. Bus fleets are relatively
more comfortable than jeepneys,
although some don’t have air
conditioning and can be quite
crowded on peak season.
3. TAXIS

Taxis normally roam around the

city streets, picking up or unloading
passengers within the city limits.
It’s possible to hire a taxi beyond
its route but drivers usually charge
extra for the longer trip. Airport
taxis specifically serve airport-
bound or newly arrived airplane
passengers.
4. MRT/ LRT

All three railway systems in the

country operate around Metro
Manila: the Manila Light Rail
Transit System (LRT 1 & 2), Manila
Metro Rail Transit System (MRT),
and the Philippine National
Railways (PNR). PNR’s services to
the Bicol Region are currently
suspended. LRT and PNR are
government-owned and operated
by the Department of
Transportation and
Communications (DOTC). MRT is
private-owned but co-operated with
DOTC.
5. Vans for Hire or V-Hires

In provincial areas not served or

partially served by bus liners, you
can ride vans for hire for a fixed
rate. These v-hires are parked in
specific terminals that are
sometimes found inside mall
premises. Although they have air
conditioning, some v-hires are
old and horribly maintained,
making the ride somewhat
uncomfortable.
6. Motorcycles with Passenger Compartment

These modes of transport come in

a variety of designs. Some have
sidecar with three wheels (standard
tricycle) while others are fitted with
jeepney-like chassis and have four
wheels (motorela). Tricycles and
motorelas are as colorful as
passenger jeepneys. They serve
very limited routes and are often
restricted from servicing busy
cities.
7.Motorcycle Taxis (Habal-habal)

The roads leading to the

hinterlands and mountain
barangays in the Philippines are
very steep or aren’t paved at all.
Generally, or habal-habal. It’s a
relathe only means of
transportation to these areas are
motorcycle taxis tively unsafe
way to travel because habal-
habals may carry more than two
passengers at a time, excluding
the driver. Some habal-habals
are fitted with a lateral plank
(skylab) for it to accommodate
more passengers.
8. Bicycles with Sidecar (Pedicab or Trisikad)

Pedicabs or trisikads are non-

motorized versions of the tricycle or
motorela. The driver pedals the
bicycle fitted with a sidecar to bring
or fetch passengers within a small
area. Because they don’t produce
noise, they’re preferred transport
options around upscale residential
areas.icted from servicing busy
cities.
4 RAIL TRANSPORTATION IN THE PHILIPPINES
OVERVIEW:

The Philippine railway network consists of two commuter lines provided by

the Philippine National Railways (PNR) and three urban mass transit lines
operated by the Light Rail Transit Authority and Metro Rail Transit
Corporation, all of which are located in Luzon. Within the last century, there
were operating intercity rail lines extending from Manila both north and
south operated by PNR. There were also lines on the Panay and Cebu
islands, operated by Panay Railways, which currently does not own rolling
stock or rail, only property
