Jean Lave

Jean Lave is a social anthropologist born in 1939 who developed Situated Learning Theory with Etienne Wenger. The theory argues that learning is situated within authentic social contexts and activities, occurs unintentionally through legitimate peripheral participation in communities of practice, and that social interaction and collaboration are essential to learning. Lave's work has influenced understanding of learning as embedded within social and cultural contexts.
