Mini-Project Requirements and Description

The document outlines requirements for two mini-projects: a traffic light control system and a digital clock. For the traffic light control system, the basic requirement is to design a four-way intersection with two lanes on each side controlled by a single traffic light pole. The advanced requirement adds mechanisms to adjust light patterns based on detected traffic load. For the digital clock, the basic requirement is to design a 12-hour clock that can set and reset the hour and minute. Advanced requirements include options for 12/24 hour display, an alarm setting, and a stopwatch mode. Students will complete the projects using specified design steps and by grouping logic into modules. They will perform related lab experiments and submit a final

Mini-Project Requirements
and Description

General Instruction
Design steps requirement: Traffic Light Control
 Your design has to first clearly describe all the possible logical scenarios.
Basic:
 The circuit design should follow the logical description.
 Your design should follow the standard design method steps of converting a  Four-way junction
logical scenario into truth table, standard form expressions, simplification,  Along each side, there are two lanes each having two line.
and/then circuit implementation step-by-step.
 The traffic light installed on one pole should serve all lines facing to
 The logic circuit should be grouped into a module in a logical way.

 You use build-in modules from the software, it is also possible to make your
own version as needed. Advanced:
 The implemented final design should have logically grouped module, if  Mechanism to integrate traffic load identification and/then light

assumption has to be taken other than the design specification outlined

Digital Clock Lab arrangement

Basic:
 You do each lab task on Multisim
 Should count in 12 clock mode
 I’ll let you know when to attend the lab – only once
 Should have ways to set/reset the hour and minute.
Advanced:
 One page Lab report for each lab per project group
 Having the possibility of 12/24 hour mode change 1. Basic Logic Tests
 Having the possibility of having an alarm setting mechanism 2. De Morgan’s Theorem
 Possibility to switch between normal clock and a free running stop 3. Functional check of Multiplexer
watch 4. Functional check of Decoder-DeMultiplexer
 Mechanism to display days of the week and/or date
5. Functional check of a four-bit adder
6. BCD-to-Seven segment decoder – Check class note
 Final report submission scheduled for: 8th Sept.
