Lines

Name - Date -

Define the following terms.

Visible line - Used to show a visible part (medium weight solid line)

Hidden line - Used to show invisible edges or contours (Medium weight dashed line)

Center line - Used to show the middle of a symmetrical part (Alternating long and short dashes)

Extension line - Light lines that extend from a point where a measurement is made

Dimension line - Light lines that break in the center to show a dimension of how long the line is

Cutting Plane - Used to show the plane from which a sectional view is taken (heavy alternating 2 long, 2 short)

Phantom line - Lines that show the presence of another part or another place that a part could be (1long, 2 short)
Used to show that a part continues beyond the drawing (zig zags)
Short Break -

Section line - Used to show different materials used to construct different parts

Long Break - Indicate that a large part continues, extend beyond the solid lines at the edge of a part (Big zig zag)

Leader line - Light lines with arrows that connect a part to some sort of information about that part

Below each term, practice drawing the corresponding line using a straight edge and

The purpose of this project is to have the student sketch a drawing directly from a
part. You will find a few pictures of the selected part on the left hand side of the
page and directions will inform you what drawings are required. All drawings are
to be in pencil and labeled. Show your instructor each drawing before moving on
to the next page.

To the right hand side of the page, sketch a top, and side view. Make sure you label
