ASB - BK117 D2 67 018 Rev0 EN

This alert service bulletin from Airbus Helicopters provides instructions for a one-time check of the tail rotor flexball guidance clamp orientation on certain MBB-BK117 D-2 helicopters. The check involves verifying the type of bracket and orientation of the clamp. If needed, the clamp must be removed and reinstalled in the correct position. The goal is to ensure sufficient clearance between the clamp and tail rotor drive shaft after a previous service bulletin. Mechanics should complete the check within 12 months per the compliance instructions.

Check of a guidance clamp of the tail-rotor Flexball

Revision No. Date of issue

Revision 0 2021‐08‐23

Summary:

With this Alert Service Bulletin (ASB), Airbus Helicopters gives instructions for the one-time
check of the tail‐rotor Flexball guidance clamp at Tail Drive Shaft (TDS) fairing angle LH assy (P/N
D535M2075102 or D535M2075103) and, if necessary, its installation again in the correct
orientation.

Compliance:

For Airbus Helicopters, it is necessary to comply with the instructions contained in this ASB.

1.C REASON
Depending on the helicopter S/N, there are two different types of bracket (trapezoidal
and C) installed on the fixation point of the tail-rotor Flexball. The orientation of the
guidance clamp installed on the trapezoidal bracket is different from the one on the
C-bracket.

Trapezoidal bracket C-bracket

Guidance clamp (rotated)

Bracket
Flexball
Bracket

SB MBB-BK117 D-2-67-009 Revision 0 only takes into account the trapezoidal bracket
for the definition of the installation orientation of the guidance clamp. Therefore, if that
SB was accomplished on a H/C with a C-bracket at the affected point, it will cause a
decrease in the clearance between the guidance clamp and the tail-rotor drive-shaft.
This decrease in the clearance reduces the safety margin of this installation definition.
The related SB will be revised accordingly.
With this ASB, Airbus Helicopters gives instructions for the one-time check of the
tail‐rotor Flexball guidance clamp at TDS fairing angle LH assy (P/N D535M2075102 or
D535M2075103) and, if necessary, its installation again in the correct orientation.
1.D DESCRIPTION
Do a check of the type of bracket. Do a check of the orientation of the guidance clamp.
If necessary, remove and install again the guidance clamp.
