Statements of compliance
FCC statement
This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this
device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including
interference that may cause undesired operation. Shielded cables must be used with this unit to ensure
compliance with the Class A FCC limits.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part
15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference
when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate
radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause
harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause
harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense.
CE statement
The CE conformity declaration for the product is fulfilled when the system is built and cabled in line with the
information given in the manual and the documentation specified within it, such as installation instructions, cable
lists or the like. Where necessary project-specific documentation should be taken into consideration. Deviations
from the specifications or independent modifications to the layout, such as use of cable types with lower
screening values for example, can lead to violation of the CE protection requirements. In such cases the
conformity declaration is invalidated. The responsibility for any problems which subsequently arise rests with the
party responsible for deviating from the installation specifications.

Summary of changes
1 Scope
This SURPASS hiT 7080 document describes the installation and cabling for
the SURPASS hiT 7080 used in the ETSI market.
In release 4.1, the SURPASS hiT 7080 family consists of one main shelf and
one extension shelf. Throughout this document, the main shelf application is
designated as SURPASS hiT 7080.
The description of the rack layout, shelf layout, electrical cabling, and optical
cabling are examples only.
WARNING
! This symbol identifies notes which, if ignored, can result in
personal injury or in permanent damage to the equipment.
Note
i
Information which extends beyond the immediate context.
Help Reference to the online help system of the Element Manager software.
Menu options from pop-up menus or inputs to be made by the user (texts,
commands) are displayed consecutively in their hierarchical sequence in
pointed brackets:
<Menu> <Menu item> <Command text> <Parameter> etc.
2 General
SURPASS hiT 7080 is placed in Central Offices.
The SURPASS hiT 7080 equipment meets the generic requirements defined
in:
• ETS 300 119 (framework criteria)
• ETS 300 019 (environmental criteria)
3 Grounding connections
The SURPASS hiT 7080 shelf grounding is required when the shelf is
mounted to the standard ETSI rack. Use 12 AWG or larger sized protective
grounding cable to ground the shelf.
There is no special grounding cable required for shelf mounted on the Nokia
Siemens Networks ETSI rack S42022-L5020-A11. The grounding is obtained
by mounting the shelf to the rack.
4 Rack Equipment
Note
i
In order to minimize the rack spacing of the shelves, the outlets of the
optical cables are at the front of the rack beams. This means that the
mounting plane of the rack is moved to the back.

8.4 Cleaning
Cleaning the optical connectors
• The importance of clean fiber end faces and connectors cannot be
overstated. Never make any fiber connections without the following the
instructions below. The use of dirty connectors will most likely result in
irreversible damage to fiber end faces and/or connector and
unacceptable optical performance. The damaged components must be
replaced. Burnt-in dust particles will also burn the end face of another,
clean connector (“optical virus”). The cleaning is especially important
while replacing cards.
• If the faces of the optical connectors are dirty, it may cause attenuation
and reflections which impair quality severely. With power higher than 10
dBm, the particles may burn and destroy the optical fiber and thus entire
connector.
To minimize the risk, the following steps must be strictly adhered to:
1. Always fit optical fiber connectors with protective caps to guard against
mechanical damage and contamination. The protective dust caps should
only be removed immediately prior to installation.
2. Before connecting the optical connector, inspect it with a video
microscope (e.g. Westover Scientific “USB Fibre Back Panel Microscope
WOS-FBF-P5000) with a magnification factor of 400.
General
The minimum bending radius of the optical cables is 17 mm.
The cable slots directly below the plug-in cards have to be used. Up to 16
optical cables can be run through one slot, see Figure 30.
Cabling assembly sequence:
1st Lower slots of Shelf internal cabling
2nd Upper slots of Shelf internal cabling
It is recommended that the intra-shelf cables are guided in the cable ducts of
the shelf.

SURPASS hiT 7080.

All the SI/SI-E cable routings should point toward the upper side of the
