EXAMINATION (2023-24)

➢ Check that this question paper contains six printed pages.

➢ 15 minutes time has been allotted to read this question paper. The question
paper will be distributed 15 minutes prior to the commencement of the
examination. The students will read the question paper only and will not
write any answer on the answer script during this period.

CLASS- VIII

SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS
Time Allowed: 3 Hours Maximum Marks: 80

General Instructions:

1. The question paper consists of five sections.


• Section I Question No. 1 to 12 are of one mark each. (10 are MCQ and 2 are Assertion
reasoning type Questions).
• Section II Question No. 13 to 14 are of case study based questions. Each case study has
3 case based sub parts, two of them are MCQ type(1 mark each) , the third sub part is a
short answer type(2 marks) having internal choice.
• Section III Question No. 15 to 22 are short answer type questions of 2 marks each.
• Section IV Question No. 23 to 30 are short answer type-II questions of 3 marks each.
• Section V Question No. 31 to 34 are long answer type questions of 5 marks each.
2. Please write the serial number of the question before attempting it.
3. In the questions of construction/graph, the drawing should be neat, clean and
exactly as per the given measurement. Use ruler and compass only.
4. All the questions are compulsory. However, internal choices have been given in
some questions.

followed by a statement of Reason (R). Mark the correct choice as:

Assertion (A).

11. Assertion(A): If two cardboard boxes occupy 500 cm3 space, then space required to

13. On his birthday Raman’s father decided to take him to a nearby orphanage and
celebrate his son’s birthday with the orphan children. He decided to distribute gifts ,
food packets and fruit juice to the children. The gifts are packed in cubical boxes of
edge 8 cm, the food packets are of dimensions 15cm×8cm×5cm and cylindrical juice
cans having base radius 7cm and height 12 cm.

Based on the above case study answer the following questions:

(i) If the food packets are made up of cardboard, then the area of cardboard required
to make one such box is
(a)470 cm2 (b) 470 cm3 (c)600 cm3 (d)600 cm2
(ii) The area of decorative paper required to cover one gift box is
(a)512 cm2 (b) 512 cm3 (c)384cm3 (d)384 cm2
(iii) Which has more capacity, the gift box or the food packet and how much?
Or

If the 3/4th of each cylindrical can is filled with juice, find the quantity of juice
filled in 30 such cans.

14. GST is known as the Goods and Services Tax. It is an indirect tax which has replaced
many indirect taxes in India such as the excise duty, VAT, services tax, etc. GST has
brought many benefits to the Indian economy, including increased revenues,
uniformity in taxation, elimination of cascading of taxes, reduced compliance burden,
online system of taxation, abolition of check posts and improved efficiency of
logistics.
Mr Ram Lal brought the following items .
• A pair of Nike shoes for ₹6000 .
• Suit for ₹12000.
• An AC for ₹ 22000 including GST of 28%.

Based on the above case study answer the following questions:

(i) If the GST charged on the purchase of the shoe is 18%, the amount of GST
paid by Mr Ram Lal for the pair of Shoes was
(a) ₹1000 (b)₹7080 (c) ₹1080 (d)None of these
(ii) If the GST charged on the purchase of Suit is 12%, the amount paid by Mr
Ram Lal for the suit was

(iii) Find the cost of AC before GST was added.

He also purchased fertiliser for his farm at ₹23600 including GST. If the cost
of fertiliser was ₹ 20000, find the % of GST he has paid.

16. Evaluate: 3√216 × (−125)


17. If the price of 10 m of cloth is ₹ 950, find the price of 15 m of cloth.
18. If 40 workers can finish a job in 15 days, how many workers should be
employed to finish it in 8 days.
19. My income is 25 % more than Ram’s income. By how much per cent is
his income less than my income?
OR

Shreya bought a fridge for ₹ 8400 and sold it at a gain of 6 %. At what


price did she sell the fridge?

20. Draw a line segment AB = 5 cm and divide it internally into 6 equal


parts.
21. Co-ordinate of two points P and Q respectively are (2, 3) and (4, 5). Find
the value of (abscissa of P – ordinate of Q).
22. Find the cube root of 0.003375.

29. A metal pipe 154 cm long has an outer radius 5.5 cm and an inner radius of 4.5 cm.

31. The area of a square field is 5184 m2. A rectangular field, whose length is twice its
breadth, has its perimeter equal to the perimeter of the square field. Find the area of
the rectangular field.
32. In the diagram given below, find the angles 𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧, 𝑝 and 𝑤.

In the figure AB || CD || EF and AE || BF. Find ∠𝑥, ∠𝑦, ∠𝑤, ∠𝑝, and ∠𝑞.
33. (a) The sum of (𝑥 + 3) observations is (𝑥 4 − 81). Find the mean of the
observations.
(b) Express as square of a binomial and evaluate for the given values.

34. The volume of a right circular cylinder is 448𝜋 cm3 and height is 7 cm. Find the
