Detailed Lesson Plan in Computer System

The lesson plan teaches students how to create straight through and crossover Ethernet cables. It reviews the necessary tools and materials like RJ45 connectors, crimping tools, and UTP cable. It explains the difference between straight through and crossover cables and their uses. The lesson demonstrates how to build each cable type by crimping connectors according to the T568A and T568B wiring standards. Students then practice making the cables in groups while being evaluated on safety, workmanship, and producing a quality product.

LESSON PLAN IN TLE

COMPUTER SYSTEM SERVICING

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
 Recognize the importance and functions of straight through cable.
 Enumerate the tools and functions for computer networking
 Enumerate the procedure in creating straight through cable.
 Perform the procedure in creating straight through cable and crossover cable.
 Work safely and properly.

II. Subject matter:

Topic: Computer Networking
(Creating Straight-through cable and crossover cable )
Tools/materials/equipment:
 Crimping tool
 LAN tester
 Wire stripper
 UTP cable
 RJ45
 Laptop
 Projector

pp. 104-109

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s activity Students Activity
A. Preparation
a. Preliminaries
i. Prayer (one student will lead the prayer)
ii. Greetings
Good Morning class. Good morning Ma’am.

iii. Checking of attendance (check the attendance)

Does anyone of you can are familiar about crossover

and straight through?

Very good! Can you give some examples of devices Ma’am cross over cables is a type of ethernet cable
that uses cross over cables? used to connect two like devices together.

Very Good! Another? We use cross over cable when connecting a pc to

another pc.

Okay very good! Can you enumerate all the tools and Ma’am When connecting a switch to another switch.
materials needed in creating cross over cable?
Very good! Ma’am we used RJ45, crimping tool, wire stripper,
LAN tester and UTP cable.

b. Motivation
Show animation video of computer
network cabling. Ask student if they
want to do it on their own.

B. Lesson Proper
a. Discussion It was great!

Okey! So what do you think about the video?

Very Good! So that's what we are going to do today!

Network cabling ma'am.
Again what do you think is our topic for today?

So here are the things that we need for Ethernet

cabling.

Registered Jack 45 (RJ45) is a standard type of (students will listen)

physical connector for network cables. RJ45
connectors are most commonly seen with Ethernet
cables and networks. Modern Ethernet cables feature
small plastic plugs on each end that are inserted into
the RJ45 jacks of Ethernet devices.

Second..Twisted pair is the ordinary copper wire that

connects home and many business computers to the
telephone company. To reduce crosstalk or
electromagnetic induction between pairs of wires, two
insulated copper wires are twisted around each other.
Third A crimping tool is a device used to conjoin two
pieces of metal by deforming one or both of them in a
way that causes them to hold each other. The result of
the tool's work is called a crimp.

Fourth A cable tester is a device that is used to test the

strength and connectivity of a particular type
of cable or other wired assemblies.
YES MAAM!
Okey so those are the things that we need to us.
Are you familiar of those?

Now lets go to its type, the ETHERNET CABLING

STANDARDS.
Two network cabling standard:
T568A and T568B

Now for T568A it is a wiring pattern that recognized as

the preferred wiring pattern for standard because it
provides backward comparability to both one pair and
two pair USOC(universal serial ordering code).
Color pattern:
White-green, green, white-orange,blue,white-
blue,orange, white-brown,brown.

For T568B standard matches the older ATA&T 258A

color code and was the most widely use scheme.
Color pattern:
White-orange, orange,white-green,blue,white-
blue,green, white-brown,brown.

Straight-through cable is a type of CaT5 which RJ45

connectors at each end have the same point.

Use of straight through cable

Use to connect computer to network.
What are we going to use if we want to connect a HUB
to our computer system?
We will use Straight though cable ma'am.
A crossover cable is a type of CAT where the end is
T5685 configuration and the other as T568B
configuration.

Use of crossover cable

Computer to computer with no switch or hub
Network device to network device.

What are we going to use if we want to connect a

computer to computer? We will use crossover cable ma’am.
Now that you already know what is straight through
cable and the purpose of this. Let’s proceed on the
procedure in creating straight through cable. (provided with the necessary tools and materials.
Students will perform actual procedure in creating
Straight through cable.)

b. Application
Divide the students into two groups and let them
perform the the network cabling. While the teacher
demonstrating each step the students per group will
follow.

Direction: Students will create straight through and

crossover cable using 568B color coding arrangement,
by following the steps in creating Straight through
cable. (students will perform the activity)

Our lesson is over, thank you so much or having me

today. Bye! Bye ma'am. Thank you!

c. Generalization

Always take into considerations that before using the

cable in connecting actual devices. It is suggested that
you must use a LAN tester first to check the
functionality of the cable.

IV. Evaluation
Students performances will be evaluated/rated using the Performance Rubrics.
(the teacher will explain how the performances will be assessed through scoring rubrics.)

CRITERIA PERCENTAGE RATING

Safety procedures 15%
Adherence to the procedures 30%

Workmanship 15%
Quality of product 40%
TOTAL: 100%

V. Assignment:
A. Follow-up Assignment.
1. What is roll over cable?
2. Identify the function of a roll over cable.
B. Advanced Assignment.
1. What are internet protocols?
2. Identify and describe the different protocols used in networks and internet.
