1.What is ICT? How important is ICT for you and our society?
ICT stands for Information and Communication Technology. It refers to the use of technology to
store, transmit, retrieve, and manipulate information. ICT encompasses various tools and
platforms such as computers, the internet, telecommunications, software, and digital
devices.ICT plays a crucial role in our society today. It has transformed the way we
communicate, work, learn, and access information. It has made communication faster and more
efficient, connecting people across the globe. ICT has also revolutionized industries and
businesses, enabling automation, data analysis, and improved productivity. And it's very
important for me because I can easily now communicate to my relatives and can easily use
internet to do some research about I want to know.
2.Enumerate what are the key components of ICT and briefly explain each.
1. Hardware: This refers to the physical devices used in ICT systems, such as computers,
servers, routers, smartphones, and other electronic devices. Hardware provides the necessary
computing power and infrastructure for data processing, storage, and communication.
2. Software: Software consists of programs and applications that run on hardware devices. It
includes operating systems, productivity tools, databases, web browsers, and various
specialized applications. Software enables users to perform specific tasks and interact with
hardware effectively.
3. Networks: Networks connect devices and enable the transmission of data and information.
They can be local area networks (LANs) within a small area, wide area networks (WANs) that
span larger geographical areas, or the internet, which is a global network. Networks allow for
communication, resource sharing, and access to information.
4. Data: Data is the raw information that is processed and stored in digital form. It can include
text, images, audio, video, and other types of content. Data is the foundation for generating
insights, making informed decisions, and creating valuable information.
5. Internet: The internet is a global network of interconnected computers and devices. It enables
access to a vast amount of information and services, facilitates communication through email,
instant messaging, and social media, and provides platforms for e-commerce, online education,
and entertainment.
1. E-commerce: ICT has revolutionized the way we conduct business through e-commerce
platforms. It enables online shopping, electronic payments, and secure transactions. E-
commerce has expanded market reach, provided convenience for consumers, and created new
business opportunities.
2. Telemedicine: ICT has greatly contributed to the field of healthcare through telemedicine. It
allows remote diagnosis, consultation, and treatment, bridging the gap between healthcare
providers and patients. Telemedicine enhances access to healthcare services, especially for
those in remote areas or with limited mobility.
3. Online Education: ICT has transformed the education sector by enabling online learning
platforms, virtual classrooms, and e-learning resources. It provides access to educational
materials, interactive learning experiences, and remote collaboration among students and
teachers. Online education has made learning more flexible, accessible, and inclusive.
4. Smart Cities: ICT plays a crucial role in building smart cities by integrating technology into
urban infrastructure. It involves the use of sensors, data analytics, and connectivity to enhance
efficiency, sustainability, and quality of life. Smart city applications include intelligent
transportation systems, energy management, waste management, and public safety.
5. Social Media: Social media platforms are widely used applications of ICT that facilitate
communication, information sharing, and social interactions. Social media platforms like
Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter connect people globally, enabling real-time communication,
content creation, and community building. They have transformed the way we connect,
collaborate, and share information.
5.How does ICT affect the following areas: education, personal, business, and health care? In
every area, write down corresponding negative impact for each?
Education:
Overuse of ICT in education may result in less face-to-face interactions, less physical activity,
and potential distractions. It can also lead to a digital gap, in which pupils with restricted access
to technology face educational disadvantages.
Personal life:
Excessive use of ICT can result in addiction, social isolation, decreased physical activity, and
concerns about privacy. It may also aid in the spread of disinformation and cyberbullying,
thereby harming mental health and personal relationships.
Business:
Businesses that rely too heavily on ICT may be subject to cyber threats, data breaches, and
system breakdowns. It may also result in employment displacement as a result of automation,
as well as a digital divide between enterprises with varied levels of technological adoption.
Healthcare:
Data security and privacy difficulties, potential inaccuracies in electronic health records, and the
danger of technology failures affecting patient care are all challenges in implementing and
using ICT in healthcare. Individuals with limited access to technology or digital literacy may face
additional challenges as a result.
6.What is digital divide? Elaborate your answer by giving true to life scenarios where digital
divide is experienced.
Digital divide is gap between demographics and regions that have access to modern
information and communications technology (ICT), and those that don't or have restricted
access.Example of my Smartphones are ubiquitous digital gadgets that are utilized by
individuals all over the world. They include communication services including as calling and
texting, internet access, social media apps, multimedia capabilities for photos and video, and a
plethora of additional programs for productivity, entertainment, and personal organizing.
7. What is digital fatigue? Include examples of your own personal experience of this.
Digital fatigue is a state of mental exhaustion brought on by the excessive use of digital
devices.Example of my own experience that when I use so much brightness of my phone and
like almost 5 hours or 8 hours using my phone my eyes is tearing and it's like atching and it
hurts.
8.How are you going to defeat digital divide here in our province, the country and globally?
Affordability: Make internet access more affordable by promoting competition among service
providers, implementing subsidies or vouchers, and reducing taxes or fees related to internet
services and devices.
9. How did/does ICT becomes a threat in privacy and security of individuals?Explain your
answer by giving examples of your personal experiences.
Example, when someone is taking picture of you and post it on social media without your
consent thats lack of your privacy.
10.What is cybercrime? Are we Filipinos legally protected against cybercrime? Please expound
your answer.
Cybercrime is a type of crime involving a computer or a computer network. The computer may
have been used in committing the crime, or it may be the target. Cybercrime may harm
someone's security or finances. Yes, Filipinos are legally shielded from cybercrime. To handle
various forms of cybercrime and offer legal protection for individuals and companies, the
Philippines enacted the "Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012" (Republic Act No. 10175).
The legislation specifies and criminalizes offenses such as unauthorized access, unauthorized
interception, data interference, system interference, device abuse, computer-related fraud,
identity theft, and cybersex. It also includes provisions for offenses involving material, such as
internet libel and child pornography.
