Rationale

As the Ateneo de Zamboanga Senior High School approaches the appointment of the new
student executive council for the academic school year 2023-2024, the SC COMELEC 2023
developed a concept paper for the anticipated Miting de Avance. This is a formal event where ASEC
aspiring candidates are given an avenue to present their platforms and prove their qualifications,
competence, and commitment to serving the student body and administration. In collaboration with
the Office of the Student Activities, the event should take place on October 20, 2023, at the Multi-
Purpose Covered Courts (MPCC) 1 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. It should follow an organized system that
includes question-and-answer sessions, debates, and related activities for the candidates. Following
the event is the election period on October 24 to 25, 2023.

Character

This program guides students in manifesting the qualities of an ideal Atenean. They strive not
only for academic excellence, but to also become leaders who actively practice Filipino, Catholic,
and Jesuit values for the common good of the Ateneo de Zamboanga Senior High School community.

Competence

This program hones the students’ problem-solving and critical thinking skills that are vital for
the school and institution’s development. They deepen their knowledge and learn to articulate their
thoughts when faced with various challenges. They possess strong minds that seek to protect the truth
and peace of their society and environment.

Conscience

This program encourages students to discern the presence of God, most importantly in the way
they view the world and live with others. They become loving, faithful, and righteous persons who
are willing to live in accordance with what is good and moral. As Ateneans, they aim to have a faith
that does justice.

Compassion

This program brings emphasis to students being men and women for others. By practicing
Ignatian Values such as cura personalis, they consider the well-being of their fellow people,
especially of the poor and marginalized, and are able to respond to their needs. They also fulfill their
role as stewards of God’s creation and care for the health of their environment.

Culture

This program allows students to have a great appreciation of their cultures, traditions, and
beliefs. They are encouraged to perform certain practices and engage in activities that show respect

 for their roots. They have a strong sense of identity and work for unity among diverse communities.

General/Specific Objectives

a. Arrange a systematic, timely, and efficient Miting de Avance program for the Ateneo de
Zamboanga University Senior High School.

b. Provide an opportunity for the candidates to promote and present individual platforms and
advocacies.

c. Allow participants to learn and know the importance of the student body.

d. To stimulate critical thinking among students, examine the current condition of the Senior
High School community, and increase awareness through formal discussions among the
candidates, including presidential debate.

e. To identify model students with characteristics reflecting the Ignatian Values (magis, cura
personalis, animo, social justice, and companionship) and 5Cs (competence, conscience,
compassion, culture, and character).

f. To encourage active participation among the students in various activities, specifically the
upcoming ASEC Election 2023.

Formative Learning Outcomes

a. Understand the roles and importance of the Ateneo Student Executive Council (ASEC) in the
Senior High School community.

b. Understand the effects and importance of decision-making.

c. Gained insights and awareness of the present environment of the Senior High School Unit.

d. Realized the value of the student body in contributing to the development of the Senior High
School community.

e. Inspire innovative and unique ideas from students (candidates and student body) in terms of
addressing common problems and needs.

Guidelines

1. Candidates are expected to be present during the program proper as it is on a tight

schedule. They are also expected to be at the venue (Multi-Purpose Covered Courts
1) by 12:30 pm.

2. Candidates must wear the appropriate attire, which is the complete school uniform,
including the gala.

3. Candidates are not allowed to bring or wear loud and disruptive campaign
paraphernalia on stage. Supporters of the different parties, on the other hand, are
allowed to support the candidates with campaign paraphernalia.

4. Candidates should observe and practice proper decorum, especially when crafting
their speeches and answers.

5. Candidates are allowed to bring prep materials (script, answers to probable

questions, and the like) provided that they are placed on a white long folder.

6. The maximum minutes for the candidate’s introductory speech–which includes their
personal introduction, advocacy, and platforms– is one (1) minute each.

7. The maximum number of minutes a candidate is allowed to speak during the open
forum is strictly two (2) minutes.

1:25- 2:30– Forum Proper

*A google form will be posted on the SC Comelec Facebook page to gather questions from the student
body, faculty, and staff desire to ask candidates of each ASEC position*

2:30-3:30— Debate (Tentative) (exclusively for the president candidates.)

3:30-3:40—Closing Remarks and giving of certificates

3:50-4:00— Photo Opportunity
