EXAMINER REMARKS
GENERAL COMMENTS: Thanks for your preparation, Hunter. Best wishes for your continued piano journey ! DS
List A
Gigue in D Major - Krebs, Johann Ludwig
A clear tone was projected, and the lines moved fluently. A variety to articulation was noted now try to add further
contrasts to express the style. Feel a strong sense of rhythmic energy to capture the dance character. The tone was
suitably light for this Gigue, work for an even stronger directional and rhythmic flow to the lines, adding shape to phrases.
List B
Sonatina in E flat Major, op. 19/20, no. 6: I - Dussek, Jan Ladislav
This performance featured well stated thematic material with scalar passages fluent and even. Listen closely for balance,
keeping the Alberti bass figures light to let the RH melody shine. Try to design musically shaped phrases to complement
your warm tone in the cantabile. Rhythms were accurate in the figures from b.58, now transfer them into long phrases with

even further shaping. The directional flow is emerging well and the accuracy is supported by a reliable memory.
List C
Reiterstück, op. 68, no. 23 - Schumann, Robert
The figures were well projected and rhythmically all notes were in place. Try for a strong and bold approach in the ff
section with more boldly defined incisive accents to ensure an incisive rhythmic energy. Try to play with a pressing sense
of 2 main pulses per bar to help project the character with a feel of insistence.
List D
Far Away Friend - Springer, Mike
This was played accurately with good attention to articulation. There is room for rhythmic flexibility and a sense of
expansive shaping in long phrases to complement your smooth legato. Draw from a wide array of colours for expressive
harmonic highlighting, with nuanced tone to fully express the 'with feeling' directive. Secure notes and assured delivery.
Technical Tests
Scales were well known in the major and minor requested keys, formula pattern was secure. Chords: broken were fluent
and chord progression major was accurate; 7th chords were fine; well placed. Arpeggios: major and minor were secure,
slight smudges. 7th arpeggio was accurate.
Etude 1
Agitato, op. 42, no. 18 - Rowley, Alec
Well known, play in one main pulse per bar aiming for defined forward direction and briskness to the lines. Listen closely
to balance and ensure the melodic line is marcato; overall keep contrasts bold and aim for excitement in the movement for
the agitato character.
Etude 2
The Storm, op. 109, no. 13 - Burgmüller, Johann Friedrich
This was played accurately with the rhythmic element intact; 16ths were generally projected clearly. Try to add bold
contrasts and aim for a faster tempo for Allegro; feel a sense of urgency in the swells to help characterize the
tempestuous character. A sense of forward drive will enhance the depiction.
