I. Introduction (15 minutes) a. Engage students by presenting a thought-
provoking question related to a current event or school issue. b. Facilitate a
brief discussion, encouraging students to voice their opinions on the topic.
c. Explain that they will be learning about the role of a speaker in a debate
and its importance in effectively conveying arguments.

II. Understanding the Role of a Speaker (20 minutes) a. Begin by discussing


the primary responsibilities of a speaker in a debate, such as introducing
the topic, presenting arguments, and countering opposing arguments. b.
Discuss the difference between persuasive speaking and informative
speaking. c. Share examples of famous speeches or TED talks to illustrate
the impact of a speaker's delivery. d. Connect the concept of a speaker's
role to the learning objectives, emphasizing the importance of effective
communication and critical thinking.

III. Analyzing Speaker Performance (30 minutes) a. Divide students into


small groups and provide each group with a recorded debate video or audio
clip. b. Instruct students to critically analyze the performance of each
speaker in terms of their clarity, organization, use of evidence, and
persuasiveness. c. Have each group present their observations and
evaluations, allowing for discussions and debates on differing viewpoints.
