I agree that every teacher is a guidance counselor. Every educator must realize his/her responsibility as a
guidance counselor by right, commission, and function. Guidance is an integral part of being a teacher, a
guardian, and custodian charged with the overseer of a classroom full of educable minds. He/she is put
there to manage the educational development of individuals exhibiting unique personalities and
potentials different from one another. He/she must minister to learners’ needs and resolve clients’
troubles and difficulties right there and then if he/she only faces up to his/her total calling. Guidance is
good teaching and efficient classroom management. If he cannot guide his/her students, surely, he/she
cannot teach them.

Guidance certainly has an enormous need in every individual’s life. Below are some factors which
highlight the need for guidance:
Different stages of development- The division of an individual’s life can take place into various stages.
These stages are infant, childhood, pre-adolescent, adolescence, and manhood. So, an individual needs
guidance in every stage of life. Maximum guidance is required during the adolescence stage.
Differences among persons- Psychology inform us that no individuals are alike. Furthermore, no two
individuals get similar opportunities in life. Therefore, every individual requires guidance, to find out the
most suitable profession for him.
Career Maturity- Guidance is certainly essential for the development of a positive work attitude.
Furthermore, guidance would help build suitable habits and values towards one’s work or profession.
This is because; guidance increases the awareness of one’s world of work. Also, an individual can plan
and prepare for his work or profession efficiently due to guidance.
Educational growth- Guidance certainly helps in the development of educational skills and abilities.
Above all, these skills would facilitate learning and achievement.

Principle of all-round development- Guidance must consider the all-round development of the person.
Furthermore, guidance must ensure this desirable adjustment in any specific area of the individual’
personality.
Principle of human uniqueness- Certainly no two individuals are alike. Furthermore, individuals differ in
mental, social, physical, and emotional development. Moreover, guidance must recognize these
important differences and guide individuals according to their specific need.
Principle of holistic development- This principle states that guidance must take place in the context of
total personality development. Moreover, a child grows as a whole. Also, if one aspect of personality is
in focus, then the other areas of development must be kept in mind. Most noteworthy, these other
areas of development indirectly influence the personality.
Principle of cooperation- This principle states that there cannot be any force on any individual regarding
guidance. Moreover, the cooperation and consent of the individual is a pre-requisite for providing
guidance.
Principle of continuity- The principle says that the guidance must take place as a continuous process to
an individual. Also, this guidance must take place in different stages of the individual’s life.
Principle of extension- In this principle, there should not be a limitation of guidance to a few individuals.
Most noteworthy, the extension of guidance must be to all individuals of all ages.
Principle of adjustment- It is certainly true that guidance influences every aspect of an individual’s life.
However, guidance is chiefly concerned with a person’s mental or physical health. Furthermore, this
adjustment takes place at school, home, society, and vocation.
Assessment Task #2
The teacher is the one who plans the learning process, he manages, partner in his educational work and
in some time valuer of skills and knowledge of students. The teacher education work is based on
sincerity, passion, love to students but also in practicing the profession. Therefore, he must have formed
personality to result with elegance, attractiveness, modesty and kindness, courtesy, and attention to
students. In the teacher education program, there should be no prejudice, insecurity, and lack of
confidence. The education program to gain success from teacher requires patience, thoroughness, skill,
and professionalism. Despite numerous commitments of teachers in the implementation of the teaching
and educational component, the main role of the teacher is education. To successfully realize its
educational work, the teacher should reflect the quality work, that is, to have the verified intellectual
capacity, considerable pedagogical knowledge, have complaisant practical realization of pedagogical
work and commitment to proper teaching. Duty and moral obligation of teacher is the preservation of
national and civic values.
Assessment Task #1
1. My girlfriend once asked me about guidance on deciding where to work after she graduated.
There are more opportunities here in Pangasinan, but she will be far away from her hometown
Quezon Province. We discussed pros and cons of having to work here versus her hometown,
and the final decision was up to her. I felt happy that I was able to help her in a very critical
decision-making.
2. One of my churchmates asked guidance on whether he should run for office at our church. I was
the former district president, and I saw potential in him on being a good leader, but he has
doubts on whether to pursue it. I talked to him about the situation, that being a leader does not
only mean serving the people, but it is also a commitment to serving God. I felt delighted that he
ran for office, and eventually became one of the elected leaders at our church.
3. One of my former classmates asked guidance on his occurring depression. He recently broke up
with his girlfriend at that time, and he spent days not leaving the house and being alone. I
helped him by listening to his story, and then asking questions to guide him to move on from his
depression. I felt glad that he was able to overcome his depression and that he was thanking me
for my help.
