2 Safety-related information
This chapter contains information on safety-related information applying to all
parts of the technical documentation.
2.2.2 Warnings
Warnings relate to steps and warn against dangers that may arise when executing
the steps. Warnings precede the steps.
The following warnings and signal words identify warnings and delineate the
potential consequences of non-observance against each other.
2.3.6 Service
If the service tasks are not performed correctly, personal injury, property damage or
environmental damage may result.
► Observe the chapter "Service" of the instructions for use.
► Service tasks must be performed by the target group specified for the respective
measure.
► Only perform service tasks if no patient is connected to or present within the
product.

PCB Mainboard
The Mainboard PCB generates the various internal supply voltages from the
external power supply or battery supply. A large capacitor provides the voltage for
the alarm in the event of a power supply failure. The microcontroller evaluates the
sensors and calculates the valve actuation. Communication with the other PCBs
takes place via interfaces. The device's serial number, the options and the LFE's
calibration data are stored in the EEPROM. A watchdog controller monitors the
microcontroller and creates a reset in the event of an error.
34635
Fig. 5 Block diagram of the Mainboard PCB
PCB Sensor
The Sensor PCB uses the 12 V supply voltage to generate additional voltages to
supply the temperature sensors and the pressure sensors. Apart from the P3
pressure sensor, all pressure sensors and temperature sensors are located on the
Sensor PCB. Communication with the Mainboard PCB takes place via an interface.
The device's serial number, the options and the LFE's calibration data are stored in
the EEPROM.
34639
Fig. 6 Block diagram of the Sensor PCB
PCB UI-Board
The UI-Board PCB is the interface between the user and the device. The PCB
controls the display and reads the touchscreen, the rotary encoder and the keys in
the front membrane. The Mainboard PCB is used to read the on/off key and control
the charging LEDs and is only looped through on the PCB. The UI-Board PCB
provides a Bluetooth function and has a USB port. The USB port can be used to
download software, save a GSR/DSR (error log) on a USB flash drive or connect to
a service PC. Communication with the Mainboard PCB takes place via interfaces.
The device's serial number, the options and the LFE's calibration data are stored in
the EEPROM.
34644
Fig. 7 Block diagram of the UI-Board PCB
PCB CO2-Connectorboard
The CPO2-Connectorboard PCB contains EMC protection and ESD protection. The
PCB connects the CO2 sensor to the electronics. 34643
3.3 Pneumatics
3.3.1 Introduction
The following describes the function of the pneumatics (Fig. 9/1).
3.3.2 Design
34401
Fig. 9 Pneumatics
Input
Depending on the connection (cylinder or central supply), the compressed oxygen
reaches valves V1 and V2 via filter F2 or F3 or non-return valves CV5 or CV4. The
pressure sensor P3 measures the pressure before the valves. The electronics
measure this pressure.
Metering unit
In the event of 100% oxygen ventilation, valve V2 meters a flow. If air is mixed, V1
also opens and ejector E1 enables the intake of ambient air, which is mixed with the
breathing gas. The inspiratory flow measurement with the LFE (laminar flow
element) measures the output flow. If necessary, the electronics corrects the
actuation of the valves.

Electrical safety
The Oxylog under test conforms to the requirements of protection class II.
With the MCable Mainstream CO2 sensor (sensor connected), the device
corresponds to type BF.
The tester, e.g., SECUTEST, must be correctly configured for all
measurements (perform protective conductor test with the setting "Protection
class I"). If implausible measurement results are obtained, such as a leakage
current of 0.0 µA, check the tester configuration in addition to the test setup.
In testing to IEC 62353, the medical electrical device (ME device) or the
medical electrical system (ME system) must be tested.
ME systems must be treated like ME devices.
An ME system is a combination of several devices, as specified by the
manufacturer (of which at least one must be an ME device), which are
interconnected by a functional connection or by means of a multiple socket
outlet.
In the case of devices connected to other devices by a data cable, this
connection must be disconnected prior to performing the electrical safety test,
in order to avoid false measurements.
The AC/DC power supply unit corresponds to protection class II. The
protective conductor resistance of the power supply cable needs to be
checked.

The test must be performed twice on symmetrical power plugs. In the second
test the power plug must be rotated through 180° before being plugged into
the socket. In many test devices the mains plug rotation is simulated by
means of a built-in selector switch.
The first measured value must be transferred to the test report as the
reference value.
Test The reference value may not be greater than 100 µA.
Result Reference value

If the measured values are between 90% and 100% of the permissible limit
value, the reference value and the previously measured recurrent
measurement values must be applied to assess electrical safety.

With the MCable Mainstream CO2 sensor (sensor connected), the device

The following presents a description of the electrical safety tests according to

regulations and its use must be decided on site under consideration of
applicable national regulations.
The tester, e.g., SECUTEST, must be correctly configured for all

the connection for the breathing tube system, and for measuring the flow, first
the flow tube for up to 15 L/min and then the flow tube for up to 120 L/min has
to be connected. If the time limit (internally) is exceeded, the test has failed.
