Instructions Plan for a Single Lesson

Name: Katie McGovern Date: November 18, 2022 Grade: Kindergarten

Subject/Topic Math- Addition

Objectives: (Observable and Measureable – action verbs)


The Students Will Be Able To (TSWBAT):
1. The students will be able to Represent addition (e.g., with objects, fingers, mental images,
drawings, sounds, acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations)
2. The students will be able to add up to 10

Standards: (What PA Standards or Eligible Content do the objectives above support? Add standards as
needed.)
1. 2.2 Algebraic Concepts
2. 2.2 K.A.1 Extend the concepts of putting together and taking apart to add and subtract within
10.

Instructional Materials: (Include all materials, technology, etc)


1. Counting bears or bingo chips
2. My hands
3. Worksheet for ELL
4. Worksheet for English Speakers
5. Word wall with Spanish translation
6. Cut out Math signs
7. Video (Count to 10 in English and Spanish! | Jack Hartmann - Bing video)

Introduction: (Attention Getter, Anticipatory Set, “Hook”, Motivate)

I will start the class with a fun song that gets the kids moving and counting in English and Spanish.
Thank I will ask “who is ready to become a math wizard today?”.
Procedures: ( Step by step bullets of how your lesson will develop. Include questions you will ask and
examples you will provide)

• I will start the class with a fun movement song on counting in English and Spanish
• I will say to the kids “who wants to become a math wizard today” and move my hand like I have
a magic wand in my hand
• I will start with counting on my fingers with them
• I will than go over the word wall that has translations on it in Spanish for my ELL
• I will put the students into groups
• I will hand each group counting bears or bingo chips
• I will start off with simple addition problems for review (ex: 2+2, 3+7, 4+3)
• I will than teach them how to add using word problems by using my fingers and pre-cut addition
signs (ex. abuela ate 2 tacos and I ate 2 more tacos how many tacos did we eat in all?) and tell
them to use manipulatives ( throughout teaching them I will ask how they feel with a thumbs up
or thumbs down)
• I will give out worksheets to class
• I will give my ELL a Spanish worksheet and an English worksheet
• I will review the Worksheet with them and tell them to circle what they got wrong
• I will than collect the worksheet and tell them it is not being graded

Closure: (A brief wrap-up of questions for students to check to see if they met your objectives. Not a
place for assignments or homework (they are included at the end of “procedure”)

2. I will then ask my students to put a thumbs up or thumbs down on how they feel

1. I will be asking for them to put their thumbs up and thumbs down throughout the lesson

2. I will than look at the worksheets when the day is over to see which problems were commonly
wrong
