The tip and root diameters of the shaft ate displaced by at least the bottom clearance, ¢, from the respective dlameters of the hub (see tigure 3), it and centring accuracy are a function of the deviatons of space width and tooth thickness and the quailty of the splining obtained or specified. See DINS486 Part tfor imits of centrability “The fit is characterized by the clearance between the ft of the shaft and hub flank clearance).See Explanatory notes given in DIN 5480 Part 14 for the connection between toler- ances on space width and tooth thickness, measuring methods, spine quality and effective flank clearance. ‘The basic dimensions ofthe root diameters of lank centred joints have been specified assuming fixp to be equal to (085-m. Thoir doviatione includo the maximum possiole ‘Value of hp (= 0,85.) and ihe deviations ofthe root diam- eters complying with the maximum deviations of space widths OH and 11a recommended in DIN 5430 Part 14,an3 they determine the sie of he connecting dlameters wher new manufacturing methods and free tool run-out are used, The root diameters (which depend on the manufacturing [processes used) of hobbed shatte chall bo calculated Dy subtracting 0,1 +m, and thatof shaped hubs (shafts) by add= ing oF subtracting of 02-m trom the theoretical roct clametor. Similarly, the absolute values of the deviations shall be reduced by a value equal 100, oF 0,2 0m; see example in subsiause 83. See table 2 for recommended tolerences for the root and tip diameters. The precise root diameter devietlon for hubs and shafts chal be caloulated with the aid of the formulee given in CHIN Figure 3. Fit and accuracy of centring are a function ofthe ISO toler _ance chosen forthe centring clameters (00 DIN 6456 Pert), The reference diameter and the hub tip diameter are to be taken as the basic dimensions for centring diameter-cen- ‘red joints \When the numbers of teeth are lvsible, the centring faces ‘can be widened by giving the shaft multiole-widih teeth anc ‘the hub muliple-width spaces, or by gving the shaft mul pple-widtn spaces and the hub multipie-width teeth s9 that, for example, when transverse loading predominates (see DIN 5466 Part 1), the spline jeint can be made capable of sustaining heavier loading; elo it allowe diameter centring to be adopted when smell modules are involved. ‘Owing to the close tolerances being assigned to the cen- ‘ring diameters, and in order limit the (anavoidable) axial dieplacoment of tho contring diametor anc the spline ele iments, diameter-centred joints reguire extra care in manu facture Theiruse, therefore, naeds to beconfinedto special applications. See table 2 for recommended tolerances for root and tip diameters. 5.2.4 Extemal centring In the case of external centring, the fit is characterized by the following: 2) the clearance between hub root diameter and shaft tip Ciameter.both of which are given the same basic dimen: sions, dp, 18. dg: and |dig| Become de: Figure 4 External centring Teble 2. Thus itis ensured that the flank clearance also is within the specified limits For prototype production, a future edition of this standard will give information on the extent to which the accuracy of spline element dimensions (particularly itch) wilinfuence the flank clearance, 6:1 Tolerance system The profteimits critical forthe flank clearance re statedin terms of space width and tooth thickness deviations. The specific mating concitions for pline joints are allowed tor by the following factors. The tolerances on hub space width are denoted by capital letters and those on shaft tooth thickness, by lower-case letters, to allow the fit between shaft and nub to 50 de- ‘eribed in accordance withthe principles ofthe ISO system oF te. ‘Table of DIN 5480 Part td, March 1986 edition, specitiesthe upper tooth thickness and loner tooth space deviations, ‘also the space width and tooth thickness tolerances. It ‘serves to calculate all deviations for any required tolerance class and tolerance position. The number of upper tooth thickness deviations hes been extended to cover tolerance position v on the positive side in order to allow transition and interference fits to be obtained using the hole-basie syater, The lower space width deviations cover tolerance positions M to co 68 to permit epecial epalications,transi- tion and interference fs 10 be obtained using the shatt- basis system also. When transition anc interference fits are involved, it le essential to check whether the method adopted for pro- ducing the shaft splining ensures the minimum form clearance at the shaft spine root to be obtained. It may be necessary for tha nub addendum to be reduced or for the hub to designed with tooth tip chamfer or for @ single purpose tool ae specified in DIN 5480 Part 16 to be used for splining tne shaft 62 Limits of size Inspection ofthe minimum fit clearance isto be made using 2 fully toothed GO geuge and that af the dimensions may be carried out either by NOT GO sector gauges or by single ‘measurements. DIN 6480 Parts 3 to 13 specify the basic dimensions and test dimensions for 30” pressure angle splines, their deviations being calculated on the basis of those spooitiod in DIN 5480 Part 14, The GO deviations of the test dimensions for composite gauges andthe NOT GO deviations ofthe test dimensions for sector gauges are to be calculated by means of the established formulae (see DIN 3960), The GO and NOT GO ceviations of he test dimensions for single measurements are also to be calculated using these {ormutee. As an alternative, they may be caleulated using the deviation factors specified in OINS480 Parts 31072; he ifterencesin the results obtained maybe ignored The test dimensions shall be used witn due consideration being fven to the characteristics of the tit resulting for the meesuring method and spline quality. This also the eystom on whieh the national standerds ofthe majority ofthe former Comecon member countries are based.The:30" system as specified in SO <15Shas not boon adopted because the system specified in the standerds ofthe DIN 5480 series Is better able to meet requirements in terms of design and of eost-etfoctiveness, ‘The system soecified in 'SO 4188 has been devised disregarctng the potental conversion probloms it requires that pecially made tools be used and Increases the risk of delivery errors ‘The principal advantages of tne 20° eystem adopted here ao compated with 180 4156 are as folons. 4) Thebasic dimensions of splines have been specified to sult the standard diameters provicing foradcenaum modifications, \which permite optimal utlization ofthe shaft cross section and ease of mounting of rolling bearings (see eubclauce 3.1.2). b) The reference to standard clameters limits the totel number of Joint, further limitation being achieved by specifying preferred mocives. The characteristics given in clauses, tems a) and b), are dosigns to pormit standardized. and hence econominal, manufacture of splines conforming to the DIN 5480 standard series ) Obtsinable from Ausiandsnormenvermitling im DIN, BurggratenstraBe 6,0-1000 Berlin 30. Pago 10. DIN S480 Part €) Tho ropresontation of the addendum and dedenaum of hub anc chatt is based on the basie rack profile specified in DIN 5480, the addenda always being equal to 0,45 -m.The profes developed with the minimum of the form clearance ‘are obtained when using tools as specified in DIN 5450 Part 16. Representation of the lengths of engagement of rack type generating tools, on the otherhand. is based on the reference profiles specified in150 4156, co that the aadendse ofthe hubs andthe corresponding etfective rect oirele diameters of the ‘hatte are reduced in ci20 a8 a function of the number of teeth, For2= 6 0 100,the hub addenda assume values of ,28 re t0.0,48-m, so that according to ISO 4186, the common tooth dapth Is equal to 0.78. to 099-m. Inthe standards of the DIN 5480 cories, the hole-basis syetom of its provides for clearance, transition andinterference fits, ‘to meet practical needs. ©) The permitted addendum mocification range allows preference to be given to even numbers of teeth, this facitating the ‘menufacture of multinie-width teeth and multiple-width spaces, primarily of dual teeth on the shaft and dual spacesin the hhub. In this way. the centring faces of ciemeter centred joints are widened, which enhances theireffectiveness when used {98 bearing or siding eurtaces. qi International Patent Classification F160 1106
