Math 4 Quarter 3 Week 3 COT LP

This document contains a daily lesson plan for a 4th grade mathematics class. The lesson focuses on triangles and quadrilaterals. It includes objectives, content, resources, and procedures. The procedures section outlines teaching the different types of triangles according to sides and angles. It also covers the different types of quadrilaterals like squares, rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids and rhombuses. Formative assessments are used to evaluate student learning on classifying triangles and quadrilaterals.

I. OBJECTIVES
Content Standard Demonstrates understanding of the concepts of parallel and
perpendicular lines, angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals.
Performance Standard Is able to describe parallel and perpendicular lines, angles,
triangles, and quadrilaterals
Learning Competency 1. Identifies and describes triangles according to sides and
angles. (M4GE-IIIc-16)
2. Identifies and describes the different kinds of quadrilaterals:
square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, and rhombus.
(M4GE-IIIc-17)

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or I. Identify each as acute, right or obtuse angle.
presenting the new lesson

II. What kind of angles are the following?

Remember:
A right angle measures exactly 90°.

An acute angle measures between 0° 𝒂𝒏𝒅 90°.

An obtuse angle measures between 90° 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝟏𝟖𝟎°.

lesson

What are triangles?

Triangles - are polygons with 3 sides and 3 corners.

Here are other examples of triangles.

What shapes can you see in the picture?

What are quadrilaterals?

Quadrilaterals are polygons with 4 sides and 4 corners.

Here are other examples of quadrilaterals.

C. Presenting Examples/instances of Find the triangles and quadrilaterals inside the box.
new lesson

D. Discussing new concepts and Do you know how triangles are classified? Today, we will learn
practicing new skills #1 about how triangles are classified. We will also learn about the
different kinds of triangles.

Kinds of Triangles according to Sides

1. Equilateral triangle – a triangle which has three equal sides

The symbols “I”, or “II”, etc. are used to mark parts of figures.
When parts of the same or of different figures are marked using
the same symbols, that means those parts have equal measures
or are congruent.

2. Isosceles triangle – a triangle which has two equal sides

3. Scalene triangle – a triangle which has no equal sides

Kinds of Triangles according to Angles

1. Right triangle – a triangle which has a right or 90˚- angle

2. Acute triangle – a triangle which has three acute angles or

angles measuring less than 90˚

3. Obtuse triangle – a triangle which has one obtuse angle or an

angle measuring greater than 90˚

4. Equiangular triangle – a triangle which has three equal angles

each measuring 60˚
Exercise No. 1: Identify the following triangles according to their
sides and angles.

1. 2. 3.

4. 5. 6.

E. Discussing new concepts and There are also different kinds of Quadrilaterals.
practicing new skills #2
This is a square. It has four equal sides
and opposite sides are parallel. All its
four corners are right angles or
measure 90˚.

This is a rectangle. Opposite sides are

equal and parallel. All its four corners
are right angles or measure 90˚.

This is a parallelogram. Opposite sides

are equal and parallel. Angles at
opposite corners have the same
measurements.

This is a trapezoid. It has one pair of

parallel sides.

This is a rhombus. Its four sides are

equal. Opposite sides are parallel and
opposite angles are equal.

F. Developing mastery Exercise No. 2: Name the following quadrilaterals.

(Leads to Formative Assessment) (Show pictures. The pupils are given 10 seconds to answer.)

1. 2. 3.

4. 5.
G. Finding Practical applications of Group Activity: Drawing Time (5 min.)
concepts and skills (Selected pupils will present their output after the allotted time
of doing the activity.)
Group 1: Draw the Kinds of Triangles according to Sides
Group 2: Draw the Kinds of Triangles according to Angles
Group 3: Draw the Kinds of Quadrilaterals
H. Making generalizations and So today, we have learned about the different kinds of triangles
abstractions about the lesson and quadrilaterals. To summarize our topics for today, will you
give me the different kinds of triangles according to sides?
angles? What are also the different kinds of quadrilaterals?

KINDS OF TRIANGLES ACCORDING TO SIDES

Equilateral - all three sides are equal
Isosceles - two sides are equal
Scalene - no sides are equal

KINDS OF TRIANGLES ACCORDING TO ANGLES

Right triangle - one angle is right or has a measure of 90˚
Acute triangle - all angles are acute or have measures less than
90˚
Obtuse triangle - one angle is obtuse or has a measure greater
than 90˚
Equiangular triangle - all three angles are equal or have
measures of 60˚.

Kinds of Quadrilaterals
Square, Rectangle, Parallelogram, Trapezoid, Rhombus
