Chapter 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Project Context
Our society has experienced continuous changes that affect how we live and conduct business. The
technological advancements affect every aspect of our lives, including employment, education,
socializing, and entertainment, and have increased our productivity and accessibility of information.
Although technology improved our convenience and efficiency, it also had certain disadvantages,
like social isolation, job loss, and privacy issues. It is crucial to look at how technology is affecting
both individuals and corporations in order to better understand its use and make future decisions.
Auditya, Mochammad and Achyar, Adrian (2021) noted that there is a noticeable increase in the
number of internet users and electronic commerce (E-commerce). In Indonesia alone, the number of
internet users rose from 42 million in 2010 to 55 million in 2011. Additionally, worldwide sales of
Electric Commerce increased by 21% in 2012 and are projected to increase by 18% in 2013, with
Asia-Pacific seeing a notable growth rate of 30%. This advancement has had a significant impact on
businesses' ability to market their products and services, while providing consumers the
convenience to shop from
the comfort of their own homes or mobile devices anytime they want. This process it improves the
trust of its customers to use its product/services.
With the arrival of the digital age, a large proportion of people have begun to adopt technology.
Similarly, many businesses are now utilizing technology, especially the internet, to streamline critical
operational procedures such as inventory management and human resources. Beh Jun Yang and
Rosziati Ibrahim (2021) suggest that the creation of a mobile appointment management system can
enhance the operational efficiency of hair salons and other businesses , broaden their customer
base, and enhance their competitive edge over competitors. This system can also minimize errors
that may arise due to human intervention and improve overall customer satisfaction.
In conclusion, it is clear that the impact of a well-integrated management system or cutting-edge
technology may have a significant effect on both large and small businesses, providing them with an
edge in today’s rapidly evolving market. The use cutting-edge has multiple advantages in business
that improves the employees productivity, efficiency, and business processes and increased
profitability.
Purpose and Description
Haircuts, massages, manicures, spa treatments, and home services are just a few of the services
that Lhay Lhor Nail Lounge and Spa provides. The
other if there is an important message. The disadvantage of using it is that information is leaked if
the accounts are hacked. According to the owner, Mrs. Lorelie Jampas, they have cases of robbery
at their stores, but luckily no items or confidential data are stolen. These are the reasons why we
proponents are conducting this study.
The registration, login, appointment, and security modules are for consumers to use instead of
writing down their appointment or the information to avoid identity theft, and the home page is to
market the business. These modules will be utilized to solve the current difficulties of the business.
The customer, employee, appointment, payment, and inventory modules are for the administrators
and owner. Only customers, appointments, and inventory are available to other employees with less
authority.
Objectives of the Study
General Objective
The general objective of the study is to advertise the Lhay Lhor Nail Lounge and Spa’s business, to
be able to keep up and embrace the fast-paced evolving technologies and utilize it for the overall
betterment of the company. To design and develop a website that operates 24 hours a day, that has

from different sources and attention to detail, improving writing and interpretation skills as well as
time management skills.
Future Researchers - This study will help as a guide that provides valuable information to the future
researchers who study similar topics, it will broaden their knowledge and they can use it for the
development of their study.
Scope and Limitation
The scope of the study is to develop a website with different access levels for customers, the owner,
and the admins, adding Session Timeout as a security feature for the protection of website users.
The customer can sign up to create their account or log in with their registered email and password.
They can click the forgot password if they forgets their password. When accessing the website,
they’ll see in the home page the information about the salon and the frequently asked questions,
they can also view the available services with prices. In the book menu, they can schedule an
appointment. They can pay online through Gcash and will use PayMongo as a payment gateway. To
view the list of made appointments, they can see it in the list of appointments menu. Additionally,
there will be an account module where they can view, update profile, and change their password. If
they wish to exit the website, they can log out.
In the owner’s module, after logging in, the owner will have customer, employee, appointment and
inventory management, also payments, logs/audit trails, and account menu. In customer
management, the owner can create, read, update, done, and generate reports. In employee
management, there’s a payroll and attendance system to supervise the employees, the owner can
create, read, update, deactivate an account and generate records. In the inventory management, the
owner can manage it by reading and using the create, update, delete, and generate record. The
online payments will be in the payments menu. The logs/audit trails module is another security
feature that logs the activity of the end users. Lastly, in the account menu, the owner can view,
update profile and change password. After finishing using the website, the owner can log out.
In the admin’s module, the admin can log in by the created account of the owner, after successfully
logging in, they can access the customer, appointment, and inventory management, and the account
menu. The said management systems will have the same features and functionality just like in the
owner’s module.
The system will not utilize the following modes of payment: virtual currencies, credit cards, and debit
cards. Gcash is the only mode of online payment. The system can run most used chromium based
browsers like Chrome and Edge other browsers are not tested.
financial statement may serve as the basis for the company owner's future business
development decisions.
According to Padyathiananda, Winneke, Wibowo, Kom., and M (2022), each salon has its own
service data management system to run the operation of its salon. However, this Aputri Salon is still
manually managing service reservation data, which takes a long time and is less accurate and
effective. Therefore, the author needs an information system that is able to support reservation data
processing using a web-based system to make it more practical for a salon that offers various types
of service categories. This system uses PHP programming based on the Laravel framework, and
MySQL is a database management system. The author uses the waterfall model to develop the
system and the Black Box method to test it. This system can help service management by recording
users, service categories, schedules, and reservations so that it can shorten time and run salon
operations optimally.
Shaping Heads, according to Sserunjogi, Fayed (2022), is a beauty parlor in Muyenga that offers a
range of services for women's beauty maintenance. They are concerned about implementing
a web-based management system as a replacement for their manual, paper-based data
management method. PHP, MySQL, the Unified Modeling Language (UML), the Apache web server,
Brackets, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS, and other technologies were used in the development of
the suggested salon management system. It is featured with
non-functional requirements such as security, usability, maintainability, correctness, and backups.
By utilizing the system, productivity will rise thanks to elements like reporting, simple searches, and
informative dashboards. Efficiency in managerial duties like decision-making and long-term
marketing planning will increase with easy access to data.
As stated by Silva and W.Y. (2021), Salary Chami' is a well-known salon in the Panadura
area, where customers can fulfill their needs. To overcome the increasing efficiency of the industry,
they needed to develop a computerized web-based system to handle most tasks efficiently and with
the capability of online management of appointments. The system is designed based on object-
oriented analysis and is based on the iterative waterfall model, with Hypertext Preprocessor as the
main programming language and Apache and MySQL as the databases. It focuses on the
requirements of the client, offering promotions and direct communication. It also facilitates
appointment management, transaction management, promotion management, customer
management, and user management. The software solution will mainly handle the problems of their
day-to-day routine and capture the different audiences.

Business location has been shown to have a significant impact on the performance of traditional
businesses, claim Salcedo, Ballesteros, and Rosete (2022). The convenience of their location and
close proximity to customers was a
analysis. The study's findings demonstrate that the relevance of the constructs, such as
perceived risk, trust, security, use of web-assurance seals, perceived use, and perceived advantage,
is insufficient to ascertain their association with the desire to embrace electronic payment systems.
As a result, there are other criteria besides the ones examined in this study that will drive customer
decisions.
According to Ong (2020), the Barangay Management System, commonly known as e-barangay, is a
web-based management system that will restructure barangay management from a traditional and
centrally controlled component to a more open and resident-driven scheme. It emphasizes
developing and testing system features, designing the graphical user interface, and planning
iterations. This iteration establishes the groundwork for development, which includes testing the
accessibility and functioning of the created system to confirm its efficacy. This study aims to reinvent
their management processes.
According to Medoza, PadPad et al (2020), the Philippines is behind much of Southeast and North
Asia in terms of the quality of its health services. Given the significance of patient happiness,
Philippine hospitals should step up their game by upgrading the current system. Waste comes in
many different forms in services. They defined the term "delay" as the time that
customers must wait before receiving services. Nowadays, hospitals favor the traditional approach of
scheduling appointments, which requires patients to wait a long time at the
hospital before their session. According to the report, the outpatient department provides the
majority of non-urgent patient care; nonetheless, this department frequently experiences high wait
times. Typically, the issue is the absence of a reliable appointment system.

According to Kuswati (2022), Important management actions are a problem in the face of a rising
level of tough business competition. In order to attain shared objectives, management works to
control the organization. Planning, organizing, hiring staff, directing, coordinating, allocating funds,
and creating reports are all management-related tasks. Using online article searches and article
reviews, the methodology for this paper is a literature review.
As stated by Khaire, Suryawanshi, Kadtan, Dayalani, and Sonavane (2021), the beauty parlor
management system is as Clients can post reviews of the salon or stylist as well as browse and print
schedules in convenient formats. This technique benefits both the customer and the salon because it
makes it simple for people to identify the best salon in their area and to read online evaluations from
other clients of that salon.
