Sheet 2

This document contains 10 problems related to analyzing power electronics circuits involving rectifiers. The problems involve calculating voltages, currents, power, efficiency and other metrics for half-wave and full-wave rectifier circuits with resistive and RL loads powered by AC sources. Fourier analysis is used to analyze current waveforms. Simulation software is used to verify some of the results.

Sheet (2)

1- 100 V, 60 Hz supply an R-L load R=2 Ω, L=25 mH as shown in Fig.(1).

a- Draw the waveforms of output voltage, output current, diodes current, diodes
voltage, and input current.
b- determine the average load current, output DC power, efficiency of rectification,
ripple factor of output voltage.
c- Verify the results using PSIM program.

2- Using the Fourier series analysis, find the different components of theinput current of
problem (1). Calculate the THD of the circuit, and the input power factor.
3- The half-wave rectifier with a freewheeling diode Fig. (1) has R = 12 Ω and L = 60 mH.
The source is 120 V rms at 60 Hz. (a) From the Fourier seriesof the half-wave rectified
sine wave that appears across the load, determine the dc component of the current.
(b) Determine the amplitudes of the first four nonzero ac terms in the Fourier series.
Comment on the results.
4- The half-wave rectifier with a freewheeling diode (Fig. (1) has R = 4 Ω and a source
with Vm= 50 V at 60 Hz. (a) Determine a value of L such that the amplitude of the first
ac current term in the Fourier series is less than 5 percent of the dc current.
5- For the circuit in Fig.(2), the supply voltage has a peak value of 250 V, and frequency
of 50 Hz. If the load is R=100 Ω,
a) draw the waveforms of output voltage, output current, diodes current, diodes
voltage, and input current.
b) determine the average load current, output DC power, efficiency of
rectification, ripple factor of output voltage. calculate the average current
and r.m.s current of diodes.
6- A single-phase full-wave bridge rectifier has a resistive load of 18 Ω and an ac source of
120-V rms. Determine the average, peak, and rms currents in the load and in each
diode.
7- A full-wave bridge rectifier circuit supplied from ac source 120 V rms at 60 Hz,with R-L load
R = 2 Ω, and L = 10 mH. Determine the power absorbed by the load resistor and input
power factor.Verifythe results using PSIM program.
8- For the full-wave bridge rectifier circuit of Fig. (3), the ac source is 120 V rms at 60 Hz,
R = 2 Ω, L = 10 mH, and Vdc =80 V. Determine the power absorbed by the dc
voltagesource and the power absorbed by the load resistor.
9- The single-phase full-wave bridge rectifier of Fig. (3) has an RL-source loadwith R = 5 Ω,
L = 60 mH, and Vdc = 36 V. The ac source is 120 V rms at 60 Hz.Determine (a) the power
absorbed by the dc source, (b) the power absorbed bythe resistor, and (c) the power factor.

Fig.(3)
10- For the full-wave bridge rectifier circuit of Fig. (3), the ac source is 120 V rms at 60
Hz, R =5Ω, L =4.5mH, and Vdc =20 V. Determine the the average output current,
average diode current, output rms current, and diode rms current. Verify the
results using PSIM program.
