PART 2-speaking

1. Your youth club is supposed to invite a speaker to talk about his/ her life
experience. 3 options are suggested: a famous singer, a company president, an
excellent student.

I suggest inviting a company president due to the following reasons. Firstly,

being a president of a firm proves that he/she is extremely talented and successful
so he/she will be a benefit reflection for the listeners. Secondly, the audiences are
supplied with leadership qualities and infused with inspiration to chase their
dream. I don’t choose to invite a well-liked singer or a brilliant student because I
suppose that a company president will have more experience in life than the two
above.

2. You just won 1 billion vnd in a lottery. You are considering how to spend your
money buying gold, buying a house, saving it in a bank.

If I won a billion vnd, I would send it to my bank account considering that I

would earn interest after a period of time. Then I could take that interest in buying
house or invest in something. Furthermore, sending such a lot of money in a bank
would be more secure, with no risks. A fluctuated price of gold and the unstable
real estate may make me lose money.

3. Your sister’s classmates speak ill of her on Facebook. 3 options are suggested:
deactivating her Facebook, telling her teacher, having a talk with those friends.

I suppose that social media is a platform whereby people are given their liberty of
speech so they can freely express thoughts, feelings and opinions. If I knew my
sister’s classmates speak ill of her on Facebook and I did not like that, I’d
deactivate her account because I think it’s a way of respecting their opinions, they
have the right to condemn others. Moreover, to keep a good relationship with them
I do not choose to talk to them about that or telling her teacher.

4. Planning a surprise present for 30th wedding anniversary. 3 options are

suggested: organizing a vacation abroad, buying couple watches, taking family
photos.

My choice is going to be a foreign trip owing to the following reasons. Firstly,

when we travel, we’ll spend private time to relax and enjoy romantic moments
together. Secondly, travelling abroad helps to broaden the mind, integrate with
cultural activities, traditions and customs of the place we travel. During the trip,
we will be able to take pictures together with stunning sceneries to keep as

memories. I don’t choose to buy a pair of watches because I think one day they
will break down, only the memories are permanent.

5. 10 km away from home. 3 means of transportation: taxi, motorbike, bus.

10 km is not too far nor too close so catching bus is my best choice. For the reason
that travel by bus can avoid traffic jams and also helps to protect the environment.
Additionally, in 3 means of transportation above, it’s cheaper to travel by bus than
by taxi or motorbike.

6. Your cousin is a freshman in university; whether to live in: university

dormitory, rent a flat with friends, stay with a relative.

I think he should live in university dormitory for the following reasons. Firstly,
living in a collective housing can raise the community responsibilities of him,
punctuality and be more active. Secondly, the dorm also regularly hold
competitions or outdoor activities, it helps him meet and know a lot of friends.
Lastly, the dormitory fee is always cheaper than renting a flat and staying with
relative can be uncomfortable and lack of freedom.

7. Teachers at your child’s primary school are asking you about how to assess
students. 3 options are suggested: marks only, comments only, both marks and
comments.

In my opinion, both marks and comments are the best method to assess students.
Firstly, the objective comment can be the instruction for students to find out their
flaws and help them learn from experience. In term of marks, their performance
will be directly assessed by their scores, they will know exactly what their levels
are at and need to attempt.

8. A group of foreign students is studying Vietnamese history. There are 3 sources

of learning suggested: going to the museum, watching documentaries, reading
history books.

To my view, they should pay a visit to museum to study Vietnamese history.

Because the museum contains historical artefacts and provides accurate
information about history makers and historical events so they will have a more
realistic view about the past. Besides, there are also tour guides who can present
Vietnamese history to them and they can also ask questions for the tour guides to
answer.

9. Your friend, an animal-lover, is celebrating her 18th birthday next month. 3

options for a present: a puppy, a kitten, a rabbit.

I will give her a puppy because dog is a well-liked pet in my country, they are
raised in most Vietnamese family. Furthermore, puppies are very easy to look
after, their food is not too fussy and they easily adapt to the new environment. I do
not choose kitten or rabbit because I think dog is wiser.

10. Buy his mother a birthday gift: a plant, a bottle of perfume, a piece of
kitchenware.

I will buy a piece of kitchenware for her. Because if I buy a plant, I do not know
which plants she enjoys and if I choose to buy perfume, then I don’t know what
brands she likes. A piece of kitchenware will be my best choice, which are very
useful for her to cook and to use for a long time.

11. Suggest a foreign friend a place to stay in Ha Noi: a student hostel, a homestay, a
guest house.

I suggest he/she stay in a homestay in Ha Noi for the following virtues. Firstly,
living with host family gives him/her the ability to integrate with the daily lives of the
locals. He can taste some dishes that he has never heard of such as Bun Cha or Banh
Cuon and maybe even learn the exact complex makeup of the dishes, he is able to try out
native games or expand his knowledge of Vietnamese culture. Secondly, home staying
provides safe learning environment to practice Vietnamese language. The family
members won’t be afraid to correct him, will always support him to improve language
skills. I don’t recommend him to stay in the student hostel due to the lack of freedom and
the guest house is probably expensive.

12. You want to buy some clothes. You are considering where to buy. 3 options are
suggested: a shop, an open-air market, an online store.

I always choose online shopping for some reasons. First of all, buying clothes
online saves valuable times and enables me to use plastic card which means that I don’t
have to travel a long distance to a shop or a market, or wait in long queue to pay bills or
withdraw cash. Secondly, most items are sold in online shop tend to have better
competitive prices and will be shipped directly to my house.

13. Your are asked about punishment for students cheating in exams. 3 options are
suggested: giving them a zero, reducing 50% of the total score or dismissing them from
school.

To my view, I would subtract half of their total score because I think it’s the best
approach for students. As teenagers, making mistake is an inevitable problem so that
teachers should impose positive punishment techniques on them for the purpose of

encouraging them to admit and not repeat again. I assume that teachers shouldn’t give
them a zero or dismiss them because those punishments seem to be too extreme.

14. A student from Da Nang city plans to visit Ha Noi this weekend. 3 places are
suggested for sightseeing: Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Hoan Kiem lake, Ha Noi
museum.

I suggest he pay a visit to Hoan Kiem Lake because it’s one of the symbols of Ha
Noi as well as of Vietnam. It’s also a tourist attraction where he can observe the daily life
of the locals. Especially, he will have chance to experience the Ha Noi street food such as
Trang Tien Ice-cream or Bun Cha. It’s will be very interesting!

15. It is getting hotter and your family is planning a trip. 3 places are suggested to stay:
seaside resort, a lakeside hotel, a countryside cottage.

I suggest staying in a seaside resort for the following reasons. Firstly, a resort is
often located by the sea so there is plenty of fun here mostly a mixed variety of services
because all the ingredients for a good time are together in one location. The other reason
why I choose to stay in a resort is the tight security, all resorts utilize state of the art
technology to curb all sorts of criminal activity and it is rare to lose anything there.
Eventually, unlike hotels and cottages, resorts provide other amenities like swimming
pools, gyms, recreational facilities, hiking trails, entertainment, all in one.

16. You are going to visit Hanoi, 3 places are suggested to visit: Hochiminh
Mausoleum, Sword Lake, Hanoi museum. Which place will you visit and why?

I want to pay a visit to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum for the reasons that it is one of
the most visited attractions in Hanoi. It is the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh, the most
iconic and popular leader of Vietnam. For me, a trip to Uncle Ho’s final resting place can
be an extraordinary experience as it is not just an average attraction; it’s a part of a unique
history.

17. There are 3 kinds of taking note during the lecture: using pens, using iPhone and
ipad, using the recording. Which method would you like to use and why?

I’d like to write by hand by the following virtues. First and foremost, writing
improves memory, it helps retain learning better when working with new ideas through
handwriting instead of recording. Secondly, using pens to take note effortlessly enables
the mind to focus more on a topic, understand it and learn from it as opposed to using the
recording or touching a screen.

18. Your class is going to celebrate Women’s day, which one is the best option: Class
picnic, Miss Contest, a party.

To celebrate Women’s Day with class I highly recommend throwing a party.

While building bonds with classmates is a significant benefit of a class gathering, a class
party can be a special time for us to share the joy together. In addition to this, we have
chance to cook and decorate for the party and then the boys will present flowers to the
girls. It will the the best moments in schooldays. A picnic or a Miss Contest may take a
long time to prepare.

19. You are going to buy a birthday gift for you friend, which is the best option: a selfie
stick, a camera, three day holiday.

I believe that having three day holiday will be the greatest birthday present for my
mate. Travelling together, we will have unforgettable memories in our youth such as
integrating with the local culture and experience special dishes. Especially, capture the
lovely moments together by taking pictures together in breath-taking sceneries so when
we get older we will look back and laugh together. I don’t choose to give her a selfie
stick or a camera because I think that they will be out of order one day, only sweet
memories are long-lasting.

20. Your brother is going to have a final test. You are looking for a person to help
him : a classmate, a teacher, a tutor. Which is the best option?
From my point of view, I will find a tutor for him for the reasons that tutoring will
prepare him for the final exam, while tutors work with him on specific problem areas.
When working with a tutor, I think his grades and understanding of the subject will
significantly improve. Besides, at school, At school, students may not always feel
comfortable asking questions in front of their peers so I believe having a tutor will help
teach him to be comfortable asking questions, big or small, without feeling self-
conscious.
