Environmental Impact Assessment

The document discusses environmental impact assessments (EIAs). An EIA is a systematic process used to identify, predict, assess, and mitigate the environmental consequences of proposed projects, plans, or programs. The EIA process involves several steps, including screening, scoping, baseline studies, impact prediction, impact mitigation, public consultation, an EIA report, decision making, and monitoring. EIAs help facilitate informed decision making by analyzing environmental scenarios with and without a project. Conducting EIAs results in the selection of more environmentally friendly alternatives and best practices for predicting and mitigating adverse effects of projects.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT

(EIA)
It is a systematic process i.e, used to indentify ,predict ,access and mitigate of a
proposed project ,plane or program.

The objective to ensure that the decision maker, stake holder and mainly public
are informed about the environment consequence before a project is approved

THE EIA PROCESS HAVE SEVERAL STEP :

SCREENING : The purpose of screening is to determine whether full EIA is required

It identify's the projects size nature and location to access its environmental impact

SCOPING : It defines the boundaries of the study and establish the environmental
components to be accessed .

It identify key environmental concerns and established scope of EIA.

BASELINE STUDIES : It includes data or information on land use soil types, vegetation,
wates quality, air quality and other factors.

It refer to overalls assessment of existing environmental conditions.

IMPACT PREDICTION : this the potencial environment impact o proposed project

It uses data analyst and expert judgesto predict the project effect on environment
Impact mitigation : After all impact have been predicted and identified action to redue the
environmental damage and to avoid the potential adverse consequence of the proposed project
are recommended.
Impact mitigation : After all impact have been predicted and identified action to reduce
the environmental damage and to avoid the potential adverse consequence of the proposed

project are recommended.

Public consultation : It obtain feedback from the public, it hold public meeting and hearing.
EIA report : An EIA report should provide clear information to the decision maker on the
different environmental scenarios without the project with the project and with project
alternative..

Decision making : It evaluate the EIA report and make a decision on project approval or
denying the project.

Monitoring and post enforcement audit : Monitoring and enforcement are crucial
component of the environment impact assessment process ensuring that the approved project
is implemented as per the EIA recommendation.Establishing a monitoring program to track the
project environment performance to verify compliance..

EIA IN INDIA
The MOEF(Ministry of Environments and forests) is the agency for environmental
clearance. If necessary, it may consult a committee of experts with a composition specified in
schedule III of notification.

• The main laws in India:

1. Water Act (1974)

2. Indian Wildlife Protection Act (1972)

3. Air (Prevention and control of Pollution) Act (1981)

4. Environment (Protection) Act (1981)

Drawback in India system:

• The lack of timely availability of reliable and authentic environmental data has been a major
bottle neck in achieving the full benefits of EIA.

• The environment being a multi-disciplinary subiect a multitude of agencies is involved in

collect

Benefits of conducting EIΑ

• Facilitates informed decision making by providing clear, well structured dispassionate

analysis of the effect and consequences of proposed projects.

Pre-emption or early withdrawal of unsound proposals.

• Assists in the selection of alternatives, including the selection of the best practicable and most
environmentally friendly option.

• Results in best practice prediction and mitigation of adverse effects of projects.ion of

environmental data

Conclusion
Environment Impact Assessment is a very beneficial step to check, whether the project is
environment friendly or not.

Since economic development is result of interaction between natural resources and technology
supporte of besigned for people, so all human activity should be economic, social and
environment friendly
