Introductory Message

For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the English 5 Self-Learning Module on Types of Viewing Materials.

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed, and


reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st-century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

used to depict skill, action, and purpose. Through our hands, we may learn, create,
and accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a
learner is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant competencies
and skills at your own pace and time. Your academic success lies in your own hands!

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an active

We have learned that viewing materials can greatly affect how we
understand the text, or written words. It connects the visual images to the
spoken or written words which makes it more meaningful. There are different
types of viewing materials.

LESSON
Viewing materials add to the general appeal of the text or spoken words.
There are types of viewing materials which can be used depending on a certain
situation. Original art, photographs, prints, television shows, films, computer
generated imagery, and videos which can be stored on different drives like
CD’s, memory cards or hard drives are the types of viewing materials.

A. Original Art – is a genuine piece of work made by an artist. It is purely


original and has no signs of imitation.
Here are the examples:
1. Painting – a process of making a picture using paint as the
protective coating.

2. Sculpture – an art made through carving, modeling using the clay,


or by melting with the use of metal to create a statue of many sizes.

3. Architecture – the art that focuses on designing and constructing


buildings.

4. Artifact – an object made by a human which holds meaning towards


their culture and history.
Example: The Manunggul Jar

B. Photograph – an image formed through the use of a camera. The image


created by the film or any other light-sensitive material can be seen when
it undergoes chemical treatment or be stored digitally.
Example: A photograph of a Daisy flower
C. Prints – works which are reproduced in multiple copies. Some examples
are graphic arts, posters, trade cards, artists’ prints, computer generated
graphics, and book illustrations.
1. Graphic Arts – a visual art made through the use of lines and tones.
It does not use three-dimensional or colors.

2. Art Print – an original work of art which are being reproduced. It


can be printed using several printing methods and materials.

3. Book illustration – a work of art like drawn pictures which are


made specifically for books.

4. Poster – a 2-D artwork which is commonly affixed on a wall for
decoration.

5. Computer Generated Imagery - an application of computer


graphics which makes images in art, printed media, video games,
films, television programs, short commercials, videos, and
simulators.

D. Moving Picture or Film – a work of art which depicts a story and is being
recorded by a camera as a set of moving images. Films are shown in
theatres or other platforms.
Example: “Ice-Age” Movie on theatre

1. Television Show (TV Show) – a content shown on a television and


is broadcasted through satellite, cable, internet, or over-the-air.
Example: Sineskwela TV Show

2. Video – anything recorded digitally using a videotape. It is stored on


different recorders like CD, DVD, SD Cards, Hard Drives, or Online
Storage.
