SY21 22 SLP - Gr8 W7 D3 Physics Studysheet

This document discusses forces acting from a distance in physics for 8th grade students. It defines forces acting from a distance as forces that produce their effect without physical contact. It provides examples of three types of forces acting from a distance: [1] gravitational force, [2] magnetic force, and [3] electric force. Students are instructed to read about and solve activities identifying examples of these three forces acting from a distance and their characteristics, including the body producing the force and receiving the force. Exercises at the end reinforce the concepts by having students name the forces in examples and represent the forces with diagrams.

Characteristics
Revisionof a Force
 A force is characterized by its:
1- point of application: Center of a body, point of contact.
2- line of action: vertical, horizontal, oblique.
3- direction: to the left, right, upward, downward, upward to the left…..
4- magnitude: amount of the force expressed in newton (N) in S.I

Characteristics of a Force
There are two types of forces:
 Forces acting from a distance:
Are forces that produce their effect on bodies without physical contact.
 Contact Forces:
Are forces that appear when some bodies act on others, while they are in contact.
 In this part we will describe the forces acting from a distance
Dear students
 Read and solve activity 1, 2 and 3 page 50.
Conclusion: Magnetic force, electric force and gravitational force
are forces acting from a distance.

Forces Acting from a Distance

Activity : Observe the figures

1- The ball is attracted by earth, the iron ball moves toward the magnet and the
negatively charged ball is attracted by the positively charged rod .Why?
2- Indicate the body producing the force and the body receiving the force in each
figure.
3- Give the name of each force .
4- Is there any contact between the body producing the force and the body receiving
the force ?
5- These forces are called forces acting from a distance .Define forces acting from a
distance .
Answers :
1- The objects move under the effect of a force
2-
figure Body producing Body receiving
1 The earth ball
2 The magnet The iron ball
3 The rod The negatively charged body
3- Gravitational force - Magnetic force - Electric force
4- No , there is no contact between the body producing the force and the body
receiving the force
5- Forces acting from a distance : Are forces that produce their effect on bodies
without any physical contact.
