What is it?
The Basler BE1-CDS240 is a numeric current differential
relay product based on the proven BE1-CDS220. The
BE1-CDS240 is enhanced with:
• Three-phase voltage sensing input is standard with 24, 27, 59, and
81 elements
• Options for two, three, or four sets of three-phase current sensing
inputs
• More contact I/O
• Nonvolatile storage of all targets and events
Basler Differential Relays
BE1-87T
• Solid-state current differential relay
• Thousands in service since 1990
BE1-CDS220
• Numeric, current differential relay with two restraint inputs
• Hundreds in service since 1999
BE1-CDS240
• Numeric current differential relay with four restraint inputs, voltage
protection, and expanded I/O

Transformer Protection
Sensing Inputs
• Up to four restraint windings
• Two virtual windings for summation
• Measured currents are phase, zero sequence, and tap
compensated
• Three-phase voltage input
• Independent IG input
• IG2: C-phase of winding 4 can be used as second
independent ground
Protection Elements

• 24 • 87ND (2)
• 27/59 (2) • 87R (2, 3, or 4 inputs)
• 47 • 87U (2, 3, or 4 inputs)
• 50 (8 P, 5 N, 4 Q)
• 51 (4 P, 5 N, 4 Q)
• 50BF (4)
• 59X
• 81 (6) Blue text indicates enhancements
over the BE1-CDS220
Protection Elements
• Assignable to any of the six current circuits
• 51P elements can be set for Voltage R/C (51V)
• Any or all elements can be blocked by logic
• Percent restraint operates on maximum or average
• Second and fifth harmonic restraint is based on the
ratio of harmonic operate current to fundamental
operate current (not total).
Protection Elements
• Harmonic sharing: 2nd harmonic signals from each
phase are combined to create the most secure
detection of inrush.
• Fundamental Iop is compared with the summed I2nd on
a per-phase basis. In the case of a fault at
energization, Iop of the faulted phase(s) will still be
greater than the summed I2nd, allowing the faulted
phase(s) to trip, even when harmonic restraint is
inactive.
Protection Elements

• Transient monitor saturation detector (2 cycle delay)

• Numeric zero-sequence filter:
o Unaccounted for ground sources inside the differential zone
