Abstract

In this report we explores the potential for developing a mechanism that automatizes
nail removal using a standard claw hammer. The proposed mechanism aims to
transcend location constraints and effectively extract nails from diverse scenarios, while
seamlessly integrating with the existing claw hammer design. The research prioritizes
innovation and versatility, while acknowledging the crucial need for integrated safety
features to mitigate potential risks associated with automatic tool operation. We invite
creative solutions that push the boundaries of nail removal techniques while ensuring
user safety and efficient functionality. For this we use the MechDesigner software to
view our simulation.

Introduction

What is mechanism?
In engineering mechanics, a mechanism is a device or system that transforms input
forces and movements into desired output forces and movements. It consists of
connected parts that move in a predictable way to achieve a specific function.

Here are some key characteristics of mechanisms:

Constrained motion: The parts of a mechanism are connected in a way that restricts
their movement to specific paths and directions. This allows for precise control of the
output motion.
Degrees of freedom: The number of independent ways in which the parts of a
mechanism can move is called its degrees of freedom. A simple mechanism like a lever
has only one degree of freedom, while a complex mechanism like a car engine has
many degrees of freedom.
Linkages: Mechanisms are typically made up of individual parts called links, which are
connected together by joints. The type of joint determines the type of motion that is
allowed between the links.
Forces and moments: Mechanisms transmit forces and moments from the input to the
output. The forces and moments acting on the links are analyzed using the principles of
statics and dynamics.

Here are some examples of mechanisms in engineering mechanics:

Levers: These are simple mechanisms that use a fulcrum to change the direction and
magnitude of a force.
Gears: These are mechanisms that use teeth to transmit rotational motion between
shafts.
Cams: These are mechanisms that use a rotating or sliding member to control the
motion of another member.
Linkages: These are mechanisms that use a series of links and joints to create
complex motions.
The study of mechanisms is a fundamental part of engineering mechanics. It is
essential for understanding how machines work and for designing new machines and
devices.

Results and discussion

This expresses a desire to create a novel mechanism that automatically removes nails
from any location using a claw hammer. It emphasizes:
Innovation: Seeking a new and potentially automated solution.
Versatility: The mechanism should work on any location and nail type.
Tool Integration: Utilizing the existing claw hammer design as a base.
However, it's important to note that safety considerations are not explicitly mentioned.
Implementing such a mechanism would require careful attention to safety aspects to
avoid potential injuries.
