Subject: A Proposal to Install Additional Solar Street Lights to the Barangay

THE PROBLEM

I am writing to officially present a proposal recommending the installation of additional solar

lights in various districts within our community. I am pleased to inform you that our barangay
has been a recipient of the solar street lights project initiated by the Department of the Interior
and Local Government (DILG) for more than a year now. I would like to express my concern
regarding this matter. The installation of the solar street lights has recently been completed along
the main road leading directly to the seaport, which serves as a docking point for ships.
Considering the gradual development of our barangay and the increasing influx of tourists and
commuters from various locations, it is imperative to contemplate the installation of
supplementary street lighting systems across different districts within our locality.
I have observed that upon disembarking from ships, certain individuals engage in nocturnal
sightseeing activities within our vicinity. Consequently, several local establishments have
adopted a 24/7 operational model to cater to the demands of these passengers. This service offers
advantages not only to passengers, but also to local residents, particularly those who patrol
neighbourhoods during night time hours to monitor homes.

Furthermore, with the commencement of the "simbang gabi" tradition, the prevailing darkness
during the early morning hours may potentially impede individuals' inclination to attend church
services, as concerns regarding personal safety may arise. Not only during this time of the year,
it is evident that individuals engage in late-night errands, which can pose significant risks when
navigating and carrying out operations without adequate street lighting.

I have been considering proposing the installation of additional street lights in our barangay.
With the assistance of local residents in ensuring the safety of our community, it would greatly
enhance our security to have adequate lighting that can provide guidance and visibility for our
daily operations.

PROPOSED PROJECT

The objective of this project is to implement the installation of supplementary solar street lights
across various districts, specifically the north and south sections, within our barangay. The solar
street lights should be equipped with poles measuring 4-8 meters and have a power capacity of
64W, similar to the specifications of the initial batch of solar street lights.
Each district within the barangay will be equipped with 8-10 solar street lights, strategically
placed at a distance of 25-30 meters from one another. The solar street lights will be installed in
a staggered pattern along the roads of the community. Please check attached photos below:

JUSTIFICATION

Installing solar street lights in our barangay is an absolute necessity that will bring about a
multitude of incredible benefits. First and foremost, it is crucial to highlight the immense benefits
of promoting sustainability through the utilization of clean and renewable energy sources. By
embracing these innovative technologies, we have the power to significantly reduce our
dependence on traditional power sources and, in turn, make a substantial impact on minimizing
our carbon footprint.

Moreover, solar street lights play a crucial role in bolstering public safety by creating brightly
illuminated spaces that actively deter criminal activities, ultimately fostering a more secure and
protected community. Furthermore, it is crucial to consider the significant cost savings that can
be achieved in the long run by utilizing these lights. By harnessing the power of solar energy,
these lights not only reduce the barangay's electricity bills but also contribute to enhancing
overall economic efficiency.

SCHEDULE

The proposed project implementation is estimated to span approximately one to three months,
commencing in the second week of February and concluding in mid-April. This timeline has
been carefully chosen to minimize any disruption to regular operations.
