PPE: Personal Protective Equipment

PPE are defined as any equipment designed and manufactured to be worn or held by a person
for protection against one or more risks to that person's health or safety.

CPE: Collective protective equipment

Collective protective equipment for preventing from electrical hazards.
Comprises the products that close off the hazard means of :
- Distance (marking, signs),
- Obstacles (covers, screen, barrier),
- Insulation (insulating blankets, insulating caps, etc.).

CPE must comply with the current standards.

PPE check
- Every PPE must be verified at least visually before
and after every use.
- Periodic tests must be made by qualified persons
and at least annually. SYMBOL EXPLANATION

INSPECTION AND STORAGE OF INSULATING GLOVES

All insulating gloves must be visually inspected after inflation and before each use.
For Classes 0 and 00: The tests consist of an air inflation test and a visual inspection when the glove is inflated. The dielectric test
is not required, but it may be performed at the owner’s request. For Classes 1, 2, 3, and 4: when in use, a glove should not be used
without having been tested within the last six months. Normal testing periods are between 30 and 90 days.
An inspection of the inner gloves is also recommended. Gloves should be stored in their packaging, without being compressed or
folded. They should not be stored near a heat source. Storage temperature: 10°C to 21°C.

UP TO 12 MONTHS !
CATU guarantees storage of gloves for up to 12 months * without the need to retest them. So, management is optimized and simplified.
* In compliance with the international standard IEC 60903:2014, the recommendations established by the manufacturer on the storage and periodic
maintenance of insulating gloves prevail in the informative annex. CATU extends the duration of storage for all its ranges and for each class of gloves
to 12 months, from their date of manufacture. From the date of first commissioning, the usual recommendations for use and periodic maintenance
remain unchanged. Gloves are delivered in an anti-UV bag.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE

Storage/Transport
Insulated mats should be properly stored to avoid the risk of
damage to the insulating material. Do not bend insulating mats.
Do not store or use close to excessive heat. Do not expose to
direct sunlight for long period. Storage temperature: 10°C to 21°C.

Before use
Visually inspected by the user. If the insulating mats is dirty,
wash it with soap and water. Dry it with respect of operating
temperatures.

In use
Operating temperatures: -40°C to 55°C. MV INSULATING MATS-CLASS 2,3 AND 4
Avoid contact with chemical products. Place the mat on a clean,
smooth floor, devoid of aggressive elements for insulation. Position
the feet: The operators feet must be in the center of the insulating
mat.

Periodic inspection
Insulating mats should not be used without having been electrically
tested within the previous twelve months preceding with the
exception of class 0. Only visual inspection is required for class 0.
INSULATING MATS

INSULATING MATS FOCUS

Insulating mats with unique and innovative properties. The insulating material
offers the best possible technical and electrical insulation characteristics.
The improvement of the elastomer formulation allows
to reach the drastic properties of “C” category of
the IEC 61111: 2009 standard: mats do not
degrade even when folded at very low
temperatures (-40°c).

RoHS2 compliant
The material does not contain Lead, Mercury, Cadmium,
Hexavalent Chromium, Biphenyl Polybrominate (PBB), Biphenyl
Polybrominate Ether (PBDE).

REACH compliant
The material does not contain any of the 163 substances
considered to be Highly Hazardous Chemical Substances (HHCS).

Zero halogen
The material does not contain Fluorine, Chromium, Bromine
and Lodine. The absence of halogen is a positive indicator
for the health and safety of the operator in case of fire.

The normative marking

is repeated at least twice
per linear metre, thus
ensuring good visibility on
the ground. Marking color
is different according to the
classification:

ARC FLASH PROTECTION
THE SOLUTION FOR COMPLETE
ELECTRIC ARC PROTECTION.

THE ARC FLASH PHENOMENON.

An electric arc follows a short circuit. It produces nearly instant
effects with serious consequences for an operator not wearing
proper protection.
As with an explosion, and as well as the high level of heat released,
an arc flash produces the following effects:
• detonation,
• shockwave,
• emission of ultraviolet radiation,
• projection of debris and molten particles.

When electric arc danger exists, heat-resistant clothing must be

worn. The arc’s characteristics are given by:
• The Arc Thermal Protective Value (ATPV) of an open arc,
expressed in cal/cm2 according to NFPA 70 E, ASTM
standards, and IEC 61482-1-1 (Open arc).
or
• The Arc Protection Class (APC 1 or 2) with a constrained arc
according to IEC 61482-1-2 (Box test).

PROTECTION AGAINST ARC FLASH

The following imputs are used to determine the proper equipment
for protecting against an electric arc:
• The maximum fault current value.
• The phase/ground rated voltage at the site of the risk.
Flame-retardant clothing in case of exposure
• The distance between the source of the arc and the reception to an electric arc, conforming to IEC 61482-2
surface. and the NFPA 70E regulation.
• The AC cycle number and the mono or three-phase circuit type.
• The location where the arc is produced (confined space). After
recording these parameters, we can estimate the level of risk
and determine the proper protective clothing and PPE to use:
APTV 12 to 100 cal/cm2 or APC 1 or 2. For more information,
please contact our technical department.
