After the betting game, the teacher will ask the following questions:
- What strategy did you use in selecting a betting game?
- What do you think are the chances of winning in:
a. Tossing a coin game?
- What are the possible outcomes when you toss a coin?
- What are the chances of getting a head?
- What are the chances of getting a tail?
b. Rolling a die game?
- What are the possible outcomes when you roll a die?
- What are the chances you’ll get 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 when you roll a die?
B. ANALYSIS Chance in mathematics is one concept that can be related to a significant term. The mathematical term we used for it is
PROBABILITY.
- Based on our activity, who can now define probability?
The teacher will post the visual aid/PowerPoint presentation.
Probability of an Event
E. ASSESSMENT Study the problem and answer the probability questions. Write your answer in fraction (simplify if possible) then
state the properties of probability of an event.
1. A class has 18 boys and 9 girls. What is the probability that a randomly selected student is a girl?
2. A deck of cards contains cards numbered from 1 to 81. If a card is picked at random, what is the
probability of picking a card with a number that is divisible by 5?
3. A letter is picked at random, from the word PROBABILITY.
What is the probability of getting:
a. the letter B
b. a vowel
c. a letter M in the alphabet
