Project Manager
1. Overall project supervision and coordination.
2. Ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
Site Supervisor
1. Daily supervision of the installation team.
2. Ensuring that safety measures are implemented.
3. Coordination with other trades on-site.
Skilled Carpenters/Metal Furring Installation Team
1. Installation of metal furring channels according to approved shop drawings.
2. Proper alignment and leveling of furring channels.
3. Installation of metal studs and fixing of screws.
4. Ensuring accurate spacing between furring channels.
Safety Officer
1. Installation of metal furring channels according to approved shop drawings.
2. Proper alignment and leveling of furring channels.
3. Installation of metal studs and fixing of screws.
4. Ensuring accurate spacing between furring channels.

F. PROCEDURE

Gypsum to Ceiling Installation

Preliminary Activities
1. Verify that the site is ready for ceiling installation.
2. Check and confirm the availability of all required materials.
3. Ensure that the approved shop drawings are on-site.
Installation of Ceiling Hangers
1. Drill holes on the slab soffit or secondary ceiling support to insert ceiling
hangers & fittings such as Grip anchors, threaded rods, bolt & nuts and other
accessories to complete the hanger.
2. Provide allowance on the Threaded rods for ceiling level adjustment once the
acoustic boards, framings, lighting fixtures and other fixtures are completed
for the final alignment of ceiling.
MEP Installations & Roughing-ins
1. Prior to installation of T‐Runners all utilities such as electrical &
communication conduits, aircon piping, ducting & fire sprinkler pipes have
been completed to avoid damage on the ceiling furring.

Installation of Suspension Rods

1. Cut the suspension wires/ or threaded rods to the proper length.
2. Locate the first hanger rod for each Carrying channel or metal furring directly
above the point where the first cross of carrying channel & Metal Furring
meets.
3. Check the original sketch of the room to determine this location.
4. Be sure the suspension rods are securely fastened. Apply them to the ceiling
with screw eyes, screw hooks, nails, or by drilling.
5. Attach a suspension rods every 4 feet (maximum) spacing along the level
guideline.
Installation of Carrying Metal Furring
1. Run carrying channels in opposite direction to structural supports/ framing.
2. Channel shall be spaced at 1.20m or 4ft and shall be attached to the
suspension rod using twisted clips with threaded rods. Steel furring channels
are fixed at right angles to the underside of joists by means of clips or
fasteners.
3. Anchor clips are used to fix steel furring to a concrete slab ceiling.
4. Metal Furring shall be attached to Carrying channel using W Clip and other
fasteners. Spacing of furring shall be 16” (406mm)

Installation of Gypsum Boards of Ficemboards

1. Before fixing plasterboard to steel framing, check that the framing has been
assembled and erected in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. All
contact surfaces of the steel frame are dry, clean and free from foreign
materials such as oil, grease and dirt. Check & verify if the framing is perfectly
aligned before installation of boards. Adjust hanger rods in case of
misalignment.
2. Carefully plan the installation. Sheets should be set out to ensure best
coverage and to minimize butt joints and waste. Provide control joints in walls
and ceilings at:
 maximum 12m intervals in both directions
 at every change of material
 over control joints in the substrate
 at every change of substrate material.
3. Plasterboard should be fixed to the substrate using one of the following
systems: Screw fixed only. Spacing of fasteners maximum 250mm. Ensure
that the edge of the board falls on the center of the furring.
4. Carefully plan installation. Sheets should be set out to ensure best coverage
and to minimize butt joints and waste. Where possible, sheets should run
across doors and windows and be cut out after fixing. The cut‐outs can be
used to cover small areas.
5. Full length sheets should be used where possible to eliminate the need for
sheet‐end butt joints. Where sheet‐end butt joints are necessary, they must
be positioned between supports. Stagger butt joints on adjoining sheets and
with those on opposite sides of the wall.
6. Ceiling sheets should be installed with the long edge at right angles to the
direction of the support members. Provide control joints in walls and ceilings
at:
 maximum 12m intervals in both directions (max 6m for external
ceilings)
 at every change of lining material
 over construction joints in the substrate
 at every change of substrate material.

Jointing & Finishing

1. Jointing and finishing of gypsum board should be carried out according to the
required level of finish (refer to Levels of Finish). If no level is specified, then
Level 4 is the default level of finish for domestic construction.
It requires all joints and external angles to be taped and coated as follows:
 Bed jointing tape into an initial coat of base compound
 Apply a second coat of base compound to fill and level joints
 Apply a coat of finishing compound internal angles are to be
completed with a two‐coat application. The joint compound should be
finished smooth and be free of tool marks and ridges.
2. Extreme care must be taken in jointing and finishing where walls or ceilings
are subject to critical lighting.
3. This is the default and generally accepted level of gypsum board finish. All
joints and interior angles must have tape embedded in the jointing compound
and a minimum of two separate coats of joint compound applied over all
joints, angles, fastener heads and accessories.
4. Regularly inspect the installed metal furring for alignment and levelness.
5. Verify that the installation complies with the approved shop drawings and
project specifications.
Safety Measures
1. Ensure that personnel are using proper safety equipment.
2. Implement fall protection measures for elevated work areas.
3. Conduct regular safety inspections.
Completion
1. Confirm that all metal furring is securely installed.
2. Make any necessary adjustments or corrections.
3. Report completion to the Project Manager for further inspections.
