Carrier PSIO Module Replacement
Carrier PSIO Module Replacement
Effective immediately, RCD is no longer able to supply a replacement module without having
a board returned for repair. All PSIO II and CIO module orders will be booked on a repair and
return basis only. If you have a module that you want to have repaired, please contact your
RCD Customer Service Representative for paperwork for the module that you want returned.
Why Return and Repair Program? The PSIO II modules that were used as a control platform
in our Commercial products through 2003 can no longer be manufactured as the design stands
today. Due to the lack of returned cores, the remanufacturing program must be revamped to a
return and repair program. This is currently the only option available. It will extend the life of
the program for as long as cores are returned.
Where are the boards returned? All boards will be returned directly to the Carrier Repair
Center for fast, reliable service. Once the repair center determines the board is repairable,
work will be completed to return the board to functional operation and sent back to you. Please
note: the repair center will diagnose the problem and repair your board to functional operation,
the external condition and aesthetics of your board will remain unchanged.
“Deadbody” Returns: Although we have moved to a return and repair program, we still need
the “deadbody” return program to continue so we can provide a module to a customer when the
repair center determines that their module is not repairable. This option will only be available if
we have cores returned through the “dead body” program. Therefore, RCD will continue this
offer and has increased the credit from $250 to $500 per module.
Pricing: The repair and return program applies to all parts listed in the Table on page 3 of this
bulletin. Current list price is shown in the attached table.
Ordering and Availability: After booking an order in C10 please contact customer service.
The CSR will issue FSO paperwork for the return of the module that you wish to have repaired.
Current lead-time is 7-10 working days after receipt of the module at the repair center. We are
working with the repair center to shorten this lead time.
PSIO II and CIO Obsolescence Alert
Returns: The PSIO-I and PSIO-II are hardware platforms. They are physically different and only
the PSIO-II can be repaired. If a PSIO or CIO module is returned and is not repairable, you will be
notified. You will have the option to have it scrapped or returned at your expense.
Warranty: The warranty for a repaired board is one year from date of shipment from the Carrier
Repair Center.
If you have any questions concerning the PSIO II Repair and Return Program, please contact your
RCD Customer Service Representative.

Troubleshooting Option: Most PSIO failures are simply caused from loss of program due to a
weak battery combined with power loss. The attached PSIO Application Guide will assist you in
troubleshooting PSIO control modules to help determine if the module is good and only requires
loading of new software.
Battery: A 3.6 volt AA lithium battery (part # CECO 120803-02) is required for proper operation.
The nominal voltage is 3.6 to 3.7 dcv, which is maintained throughout most of its life. The power
circuitry is designed such that the battery is always in the circuit. The drain on the battery does not
depend on whether the module is receiving outside power. Voltage drops rapidly when the battery
is near the end of its life.
If power is going to be off or has been off for a long period of time, the battery will be dead and
programming lost.
Recommendation: As part of yearly scheduled maintenance, check the voltage level on the
PSIO. If the battery voltage reads 3.5 volts or less, the battery is approaching the end of its useful
life and should be changed.
Note: If the PSIO module is good and only a loss of software has occurred or if the module needs
reprogramming, please contact your local Carrier dealer or distributor. They may be able to assist
you in downloading new software.

PSIO II Module – Proper operation of the PSIO module is indicated by LED’s on the top
horizontal surface of the PSIO with the 21 vdc power supplied to the module. This
troubleshooting information is good for any application with a PSIO II module.
Red LED – Power/Hardware status indicator. Blinking continuously with one second on, one second
off rate indicates proper operation.
If Red LED is blinking rapidly indicates a problem requiring replacement of the module.
Off continuously indicates power should be checked. Check fuses or shorted secondary of the
transformer
Green LED 1 - PSIO Communication indicator. Blinking when power is on indicates module is
attempting to communicate with a CCN module, such as the LID.
If Green LED 1 is not blinking and Red LED is blinking normally, then the module has lost its
software due to loss of power.
Open and check the battery compartment on the PSIO. If the battery has corroded severely,
PSIO module may not be salvageable due to contamination of the internal electronics.
Most of PSIO failures are simply caused from loss of program due to a weak battery combined with
power loss. When this happens, check the lights on the top of the PSIO.
Q– If the green LED is not lit and the red LED is blinking once a second does the PSIO module
need to be replaced?
A– Red LED is the watchdog timer light. If the Red LED is blinking once a second (normal rate),
and the green LED’s are both off, the PSIO program has been lost and module can
probably be down-loaded with new software. Battery must be replaced.
