The Refugee Admissions
and Program Assistant
plays a primary role in
ensuring the effective use
of U.S. funding in support
of dignified lives and
sustainable long-term
solutions for refugees and
internally displaced
persons (IDPs) residing in
the Iraqi Kurdistan Region
(IKR). S/he travels regularly
throughout the IKR and
neighboring Iraqi
governates for in-person
monitoring and evaluation
of U.S.-funded programs
implemented by UN and
Major Duties: NGO partners. The
Refugee Assistant also
meaningfully contributes to
the U.S. Refugee
Admissions Program
(USRAP), specifically by
supporting Department of
Homeland Security (DHS)
Refugee Officers during
their extended visits to Erbil
and by intervening as
appropriate with host
government officials, UN
staff, and individual USRAP
applicants on specific
USRAP cases. The
Refugee Assistant
proactively identifies
persistent and emerging
humanitarian challenges;
s/he monitors relevant
government policies and
advocacy and programs
sponsored by other
diplomatic missions and
non-traditional donors such
as private sector
companies.
