1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to ensure the procedures, general
measures for painting of steel structures on site. This method statement is to
ensure that all information regarding materials, tools, equipment, manpower,
supervision, hazards and risks are available for the proper and safe execution of
work. In particular, that work steps and all safety measures are taken to ensure
that the work can be executed in safe as per project specification.

2. SCOPE OF WORKS
This method statement have been developed to carry out for painting of steel
structures on site in accordance with project specifications, drawings and
applicable codes and standards referred in the project specification and to enhance
the quality procedures for proper QA/QC.

3. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT


The following tools and equipment will be used:

• BRUSH

• ROLLER

• HAND TOOLS

• BLOWER

• CLOTHS

• PPE - Hard Hat, Hi-Viz Vest, Safety Glasses, Gloves, Safety Boots, Overalls, Ear
Plugs,

4. SAFETY MEASURES

a. Hazard Identification:
Conduct a comprehensive hazard assessment, identifying potential risks associated with painting
activities.

b. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):


Mandate the use of appropriate PPE, including safety goggles, gloves, coveralls, and respiratory
protection, for all personnel involved in the painting process.
c. Ventilation:
Ensure adequate ventilation in the work area to minimize exposure to paint fumes.

d. Fire Safety:
Implement fire safety measures, including the use of fire-resistant paint and fire extinguishers in
proximity to the work area.

e. Emergency Procedures:
Establish clear emergency procedures, including evacuation routes, first aid locations, and
contact information for emergency services.
5. PAINTING PROCESS

a. Surface Preparation:
i. Inspect the steel surfaces for rust, dirt, and contaminants.
ii. Clean the surfaces thoroughly, using wire brushes and appropriate cleaning agents.

b. Primer Application:
i. Apply a suitable primer evenly on the prepared surfaces using brushes, ensuring complete
coverage.
ii. Allow the primer to dry according to manufacturer specifications.

c. Fire Paint Application:


i. Apply fire-resistant paint over the primed surfaces, utilizing brushes for precise application.
ii. Ensure uniform coverage to achieve the desired fire protection.

d. Topcoat Application:
i. Apply the selected topcoat using brushes, following the manufacturer's recommendations.
ii. Allow sufficient drying time between coats, ensuring a smooth and even finish.

e. Quality Control:
i. Conduct regular inspections during the painting process to ensure adherence to quality
standards.
ii. Rectify any defects or irregularities promptly.

f. Waste Disposal:
i. Dispose of used brushes, empty paint containers, and other waste materials in accordance with
environmental regulations

6. LIST OF HAZARDS & PRECAUTIONS.

• Manual handling-back injuries.

• Chemicals handling time injuries.

7. STORAGE OF MATERIAL

Emphasize storing paint in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and ensure containers are
tightly sealed to prevent drying or contamination. Additionally, mention proper labeling,
segregation of different types of paint, and adherence to manufacturer's guidelines for
temperature conditions.

8. RECEIVING OF MATERIAL

All delivery to site shall be informed by production team to the site team 24 hours

earlier to have planned for unloading. A delivery note is always enclosed with the

supplied materials to clarify name of project, location, building number, type of

material, quantity, date of delivery, etc..
