concepts of heat and
Heat electricity.
Do you know what heat is, class?
Heat is the energy that makes
things warm. It's like the
invisible power that flows
between objects, making them
Yes! Very good. In another term, Heat is hotter when they gain heat and

moving. Heat flows naturally from the
warmer object (higher energy) to the cooler
one (lower energy).

Units of heat and thermal energy

https://youtu.be/DEMs-rW8q_M?
si=omSR8KJjZEzFK7c2
- The metric unit for measuring heat is the
joule. This is the same joule used to
measure all forms of energy, not just heat.
A joule is a small amount of heat.
- Thermal energy flows from higher
temperature to lower temperature. This
process is called heat transfer.

Thermal conductors and insulators

- Solids are the best conductors of heat due
to their closely packed particles, while
gases have dispersed particles, making air
a poor conductor.
- Good electrical conductors like silver,
copper, gold, and aluminum are also good
thermal conductors.

Thermal radiation
Where does thermal radiation come from?
It comes from the heat from the
Sun that is transferred to Earth
- Thermal radiation is electromagnetic by thermal radiation.
waves (including light) produced by
objects because of their temperature.
- The amount of radiation absorbed depends
on the surface of a material, with black
surfaces being particularly hot due to their
thermal absorption.

Electricity

OBHbAp
- Electricity is the flow of electrical power
or charge.
- Magnetism is closely related to electricity.
Electric currents cause magnetism. The
opposite is also true—moving magnets are
used to generate electricity.

Electric and magnetic forces

- The force between magnets can either
attract or repel. Magnetic forces can attract
or repel because there are two kinds of
magnetic poles, called north and south.

Magnets

Have you seen a magnet, class? Where do

you usually see it?
Magnetic materials can be
- Permanent magnets, like bar magnets and found in various devices like
refrigerator magnets, maintain their electric motors and computer
magnetic properties even when not close to disk drives. They can create
other magnets. All magnets have two magnetic effects by themselves,
poles, like two sides of a coin, and like iron and steel.
magnetic forces can pass through materials
without a noticeable decrease in strength.

Electric current
- The electricity you use every day is electric
current in wires, motors, light bulbs, and
other inventions.
- Electric current is what makes an electric
motor turn or an electric stove heat up.
- Electric current is measured in amperes
(A), or amps, for short.
Batteries
- Do you know what is the use of battery,
class?
Yes, and the electrical current carries the Yes, teacher. A battery is used to

bulb. The bulb transforms electrical energy a voltage difference.
carried by current into light and heat.

Electric Circuits
https://youtu.be/VnnpLaKsqGU?si=cgYrUUM23m_WXCGV
- An electric circuit is a complete path
through which electric current travels.

Light Bulbs
- For most of human history, people relied
on the Sun, Moon, and fire to provide light.
Thomas Edison’s electric light bulb (1879)
changed our dependence on fire and
daylight forever.
- what is the importance of light bulbs to
you? The electric bulbs serve as the
light and one of the most

circuit has its own circuit breaker, opening
if too much current flows. Wall sockets
have three wires: hot, neutral, and ground.
Hot wires carry 120 volts, neutral wires
stay at zero volts, and ground wires are
connected to the ground for safety.

What if you plug too many things into a wall

outlet?
- What will happen to your house class, if
you have too many plugs?

Each device uses the required electricity,
but excessive plugging can cause
overheating. To prevent this what will you
do? Unplug devices to reduce
