Heated O2 Sensor-5SFE-ECM-DIAGNOSTICS
Heated O2 Sensor-5SFE-ECM-DIAGNOSTICS
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Refer to DTC P0125 (Insufficient Coolant Temp. for Closed Loop Fuel Control (Except California Spec.)) on
page DI–55.
DTC No. DTC Detecting Condition Trouble Area
P0135 When heater operates, heater current exceeds 2 A
P0141 (2 trip detection logic) DOpen or short in heater circuit of heated oxygen sensor
DHeated
H t d oxygen sensor heater
h t
P0135 Heater current of 0.2 A or less when heater operates
DECM
P0141 (2 trip detection logic)
HINT:
D Sensor 1 refers to the sensor closer to the engine body.
D Sensor 2 refers to the sensor farther away from the engine body.
WIRING DIAGRAM
Refer to DTC P0125 (Insufficient Coolant Temp. for Closed Loop Fuel Control (Except California Spec.)) on
page DI–55.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT:
Read freeze frame data using TOYOTA hand–held tester or OBD II scan tool. Because freeze frame records
the engine conditions when the malfunction is detected, when troubleshooting it is useful for determining
whether the vehicle was running or stopped, the engine warmed up or not, the air–fuel ratio lean or rich, etc.
at the time of the malfunction.
DI–76
DIAGNOSTICS – ENGINE (5S–FE)
1 Check voltage between terminals HT1, HT2 of ECM connector and body ground.
PREPARATION:
ON (a) Remove the glove compartment (See page SF–64).
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON.
CHECK:
w/o Immobiliser Measure voltage between terminals HT1, HT2 of the ECM con-
HT1 nector and body ground.
HINT:
D Connect terminal HT1 to bank 1 sensor 1.
D Connect terminal HT2 to bank 1 sensor 2.
OK:

Check and repair harness or connector between EFI main relay (Marking: EFI) and heated oxygen
sensor, and heated oxygen sensor and ECM. (See page IN–31).

DIAGNOSTICS – ENGINE (5S–FE)
2 Check for open and short in harness and connector between ECM and heated
oxygen sensor (See page IN–31).
OK
PREPARATION:
(a) Connect the OBD II scan tool or TOYOTA hand–held tester to the DLC3.
(b) Warm up the engine to normal operating temp.
CHECK:
Read voltage output of the heated oxygen sensor when the engine suddenly raced.
HINT:
Perform quick racing to 4,000 rpm 3 min. using the accelerator pedal.
OK:
Heated oxygen sensor output voltage:
Alternates from 0.45*1/0.40* 2 V or less to 0.60*1/0.50* 2 V or more.
