4 General safety information

4.1 Operator's duty of care

The cleaning and disinfection machine has been designed and built based on a risk
analysis and after careful selection of the applicable harmonized standards and additional
technical specifications.
It therefore corresponds to the latest technology and is guaranteed to provide maximum
IMPORTANT! safety.
This level of safety can only be achieved in practice, however, if all the necessary
measures are taken.
The operator of the installation has an obligation of care to ensure that these measures
are scheduled and also to check that they are correctly executed.

Measures to ensure safe operation of the machine:

The operator must ensure in particular that ...

... the cleaning and disinfection machine may only be used for its intended purpose.
Should it be used in any other way, damage or danger may occur, for which we accept no
IMPORTANT!I liability (see the chapter on "Use for the Purpose Intended“).
MPORTANT
... assembly, installation, commissioning, repair and maintenance work on the cleaning
and disinfection machine is only carried out by authorised specialists who have been
trained by MEIKO!
IMPORTANT!

... the relevant personnel are regularly trained in all questions relating to safety at work
and environmental protection and, in particular, that they are familiar with the operating
instructions as well as with the safety information provided in them.
IMPORTANT!

…the appliance is only operated when it is in a perfect, operationally efficient condition.

IMPORTANT!

Do not put any objects on the cleaning and disinfection machine.

IMPORTANT!

Do not put excessive quantities of cellulose, similar material or utensils which are not
meant for use in a cleaning and disinfection machine into the appliance. Danger of
IMPORTANT!
blockage!

Do not put any solvents into the wash chamber. ATTENTION! Danger of explosion!
IMPORTANT!

Be careful when closing the chamber door. Do not trap your hand!
IMPORTANT!

Do not sit or stand on the open door. Danger of accidental injury!

The appliance may be damaged and could therefore fail to work properly in the future.
IMPORTANT!

We recommend that you wear rubber gloves.

Modifications of the appliance, especially technical modifications without the written

approval of the manufacturer and modifications installed by non-authorized persons lead
to the total loss of the right to claim under guarantee and invalidate our product liability. Any
modifications to the appliance - especially internal technical modifications - undertaken
IMPORTANT! by unauthorised persons without the written permission of the manufacturer will invalidate
the warranty and all product liability.

4.2 Basic safety measures

Danger can arise from the improper use of the cleaning and disinfection machine or if it is
used for purposes for which it was not intended.

IMPORTANT! Parts carrying electric current as well as moving or rotating parts can cause:
- Dangers to the user’s life and limb and
- Material damage

In accordance with the Medical Devices Operators Regulations, the cleaning and
IMPORTA disinfection machine may only be operated and used by persons who have received the
NT!
necessary training for this purpose or who have the necessary knowledge and
IMPORTANT!
experience.

These persons must be sufficiently qualified and authorised, have been instructed by the
operator and have been provided with the hazard and safety information.

Qualified persons within the meaning of these Operating Instructions are persons:
 who are over 14 years of age,
 who, because of their training, experience, instruction and knowledge of the relevant
standards, regulations, accident prevention instructions and operating conditions,
have been authorised by the person responsible for the safety of the machine to
carry out the necessary activities, and who therefore are aware of the possible
dangers and how to avoid them,
 who have been trained in first aid and in the on-site rescue arrangements,
 who have read and who observe the safety instructions,
 who have read and who observe the Operating Instructions (or the part applicable to
the work to be carried out).

The cleaning and disinfection machine operates with hot water and the temperature in the
wash chamber during the thermal disinfection exceeds 80°C (or at a higher temperature if
so determined by the customer). There exists therefore the danger of scalding! This
means also that the utensils which are cleaned and that parts of the wash chamber and
wash chamber door are at a high temperature after the disinfection process.
Corresponding precautions must be taken.

9 The function
The cleaning and disinfection machine is for the emptying, cleaning and disinfection of:
 Bedpans
 Commode buckets
 Their lids
 Urine bottles
 Urine collection jugs
 Kidney bowls
The care utensils must be inserted into the correct position in the utensil holder on the
open wash chamber door. By closing the door, the utensil holder is turned to a vertical
position and the utensils are emptied. After pressing a program key, the cleaning and
disinfection process starts.

The wash chamber door is locked and only released when the chosen program has
finished correctly.

During the program cycle the care utensils are first rinsed with cold water and then they
are cleaned with hot water. The wash nozzles are positioned in such a way that perfect
cleaning is guaranteed provided that the utensils have been positioned correctly.

After the cleaning cycle is over, the care utensils are disinfected.
The thermal disinfection process involves heating the care utensils until they are
disinfected to a pre-set A0 value. Optionally, you may set up programs that perform a
heat exchange with hot water after disinfection.

At the end of the program the wash chamber door is unlocked. The items can now be
taken out.

Caution, danger of scalding/burning!

The care utensils, parts of the wash-chamber and the wash-chamber door are still at a
high temperature. Appropriate protective measures must be observed.

The indicator lamp of the selected key is illuminated while the program is running. The
sequence of the individual program steps is shown in the chapter ”Operating
Information“. Once the heating phase has started, the A0 value is displayed on the
operating field and remains there until the end of the program.

12 Dosing agent
Use safety glasses/goggles and protective gloves.
Always wear safety glasses or goggles when working on the dosing system.

Only use dosing agents for cleaning, water softening or rinsing which have been
approved in writing by MEIKO for use in MEIKO cleaning and disinfection machines.
Approved products: Rinse /water softening agent: Doyen SK22E
Detergent: no product specified

Detergent and disinfectants can endanger health if they are not used
for the purpose intended. The manufacturer’s instructions on the
original packaging and the technical data sheets must be observed.
(This applies to all other products which are not named here.)

In case of a change of product, rinse out the complete dosing system

with water, otherwise operational problems or even damage may
occur.

13 Care
The cleaning and disinfection machine is designed to minimize cleaning and care
requirements. However, in the interest of hygiene and cleanliness, it is absolutely
necessary to clean the complete appliance carefully.
Only suitable products must be used for cleaning stainless steel surfaces.
They must not attack the metal, form any deposits and cause discoloration.

Do not use a high-pressure cleaner or a hose to clean the cleaning and disinfection
machine.

The seal on the wash-chamber door can be cleaned with soap and water.
Cleaning agents containing oil must not come into contact with the seal on the wash-
chamber door.

14 Corrosion signs
The appliance is made from high-quality stainless steel. Nevertheless, under special
circumstances, corrosion may occur. Please observe the following points:
 Ensure that no iron or steel particles enter the appliance from the local fresh water
supply pipes. The same applies to other metal particles such as copper
filings/turnings.
 Signs of corrosion may occur if unsuitable detergents are used.

period
Switch the power supply from the building off.
Close the local stop valve in the water pipe.

Remove the hose clamp and the stainless steel plug from the pressure line branch, and
empty the washing pump. Use a small funnel with a hose to securely drain the remaining
water. Secure the stainless steel plug and the hose clamp at the pressure line branch.

Release the hose clamp and pull the drain hose from the top of the low-pressure
evaporator. The residual water can be let off into the open washing chamber. Caution!
There is a risk of scalding with hot water. Reinstall the hose on the low-pressure
evaporator and secure the hose clamp.

Rinse the waste-trap weekly with a bucket of fresh water.

Before restarting the cleaning and disinfection machines

Switch on the power supply from the building.
Check all rotating nozzle for smooth function.
Check the level and of the container of dosing agent.
Ventilate the metering system as explained in chapter “the ventilation of the rinse and
wash hoses”.
Open the stop valve in the water pipe.
Start a program and observe whether it is executed correctly and check for leaks, in
particular at drain screw and drain cover.

18 Non-ionizing radiation
Non-ionizing radiation is not produced intentionally but unfortunately comes about due to electrical operating
equipment (e.g. electrical motors, high-voltage cables and magnetic coils). In addition the machine has no
strong permanent magnet. There is a high possibility of eliminating the influence of active implants (e.g.
pacers, defibrillators) by maintaining a safety distance of 30 cm (distance of the field source to the implant).

20 Maintenance
The message “MAINTENANCE NECESSARY” appears in the display when the cleaning
and disinfection machine has completed a pre-set number of cleaning cycles. The
standard setting is 5000 cycles.

Maintenance is necessary after 5000 cycles or at intervals of not longer than one year.

Regular maintenance is e s s e n t i a l if the appliance is to

operate properly and smoothly. Regular maintenance can avoid
break-downs and damage (including water damage) and enables
the cleaning and disinfection machine to have a long working life.

Maintenance will be carried out by a MEIKO service technician when requested.

The operator has also the possibility of concluding a maintenance contract with a
MEIKO representative.
Thus, regular and duly maintenance is guaranteed at all times.

“Next maintenance“ sticker

If maintenance is carried out by a MEIKO customer service

technician, he will apply a sticker to the cleaning and disinfection
machine indicating the date when the next maintenance should
take place.
Please note that the sticker is fixed very precisely.
The month in which the appliance is to be maintained is at the
top (in the 12 o’clock position).
