STUDY GUIDE AND REVISION WORKSHEET

FOR THE SECOND MIDTERM TEST
˜™
I. MATH VOCABULARY & KNOWLEDGE REVIEW
Topic Math knowledge
- Addition properties:
+ The Commutative (Order) Property of Addition: You can add numbers in any
order and the sum will be the same.

+ The Associative (Grouping) Property of Addition: You can group numbers in

Topic 8: Use
any way and the sum will be the same.
Strategies and
Properties to
Add and
Subtract

+ The Identity (Zero) Property of Addition: The sum of any number and zero
equals that same number.

Math 1
- Round whole number:
+ Look at the digit to the right of the place you are rounding.
+ If it is 5 or greater, add 1 to the rounding digit.
+ If it is less than 5, leave the digit alone. Change digits to the right of the rounding
place to 0.
- Compatible numbers are close to the addends but are easy to add mentally.
Example: 75 and 25 are compatible numbers.
- You can estimate sum and difference by rounding or using compatible numbers.
- Addition and subtraction are inverse operations.
- Place value is the value given to the place a digit has in a number.

Topic 9:
Fluently Add
and Subtract - You can use place value to break the problem into smaller problems:
within 1,000 + First, find the sum of each place value.
+ Then, add the sums of each place value.
- When you regroup, you name a whole number in a different way.
Example: 16 ones = 1 ten 6 ones.
- You can use an open number line to multiply by multiples of 10.

Topic 10: 30 x 4 = 120

Multiply by - You can use the Associative Property of Multiplication to group factors. The
Multiples of 10 way factors are grouped does not change the product.
- You can use the Distributive Property to decompose a factor. A multiplication
fact can be broken apart into the sum of two other multiplication facts.
- A multiple is the product of a given whole number and any nonzero whole
number.

Math 2
- Fraction as equal parts.
Fractions represent the parts of a whole or collection of objects.

To identify the fraction, the whole must be divided into equal parts.

Topic 12:
Understand
Fractions as
Numbers - Fractions on number line.
Fractions can be represented on a number line, as shown below.

- Unit fraction is a fraction where the numerator (top number) is 1.

II. PRACTICE
