Electrical Design Analysis 2 Storey

The document provides an electrical design analysis for a proposed two-story residential building. It calculates the total load to be 4742.4 VA. It recommends using 2- 8.0 mm2 THHN/THWN wires and 1 ground wire in a 35mm RMC conduit for the main service feeder. For the service equipment, it recommends a 40A circuit breaker. It also checks the voltage drop, which is calculated to be 1.91%, within the allowed 5% limit. The short circuit current is calculated to be 328.57A.

ELECTRICAL DESIGN ANALYSIS DRAFTED FOR COMPLIANCE

PROJECT TITLE : PROPOSED TWO STOREY BUILDING RESIDENTIAL

LOCATION : ---
OWNER : ---
SUBJECT : ELECTRICAL CALCULATION AND DESIGN ANALYSIS
In compliance to LGU – ---

OBJECTIVE:
1. To provide design load analysis as required for verification of load schedule calculation.
2. To identify fault level at main protection for sizing of interrupting capacity of main circuit
breaker.
3. To check voltage drop to ensure good quality of power delivered to final load.
REFERENCE:
A. Philippine Electrical Code Part 1 – 2017 Edition
B. Proposed submitted electrical plan
PARAMETERS:
1. 5% maximum allowable voltage drop from Main power supply up to Final load
2. Main power supply : 230 Volt / 60Hz – Single Phase – 3 Wire service
3. Total floor area: 81 sq. m.

DESIGN ANALYSIS:
A. For Lighting Load :
Total floor area – 81 sq. m. (24 VA/sq. m.) - 1944
B. 1 small appliances load @ 1500 - 1500
Total Load - 3444
C. Net Load :
3000 VA @ 100% DF - 3000
Remainder of 444 @ 35% DF - 155.4
Total Load - 3155.4
D. Net Load & Specific Load:
Net Load - 3155.4
1 SPO : (6.9A × 230V) @ 100% DF - 1587
Total Load - 4742.4
THEREFORE:

FOR MAIN SERVICE FEEDER

Total Full Load Current = [(1587 × 125%) + 3000 + 155.44 VA]/230V = 19.24 Amperes
Use: 2- 8.0 mm2 THHN/THWN – Line Wire +
1-8.0 mm2 THHN/THWN – Ground Wire in 35mm Ø RMC

FOR SERVICE EQUIPMENT RATING

Maximum Rating of Protective Device (Inverse Time Circuit Breaker) =
[(1587 × 250%) + 3000 + 155.44 VA]/230V = 30.97 Amperes
Use: 1 - 40 AT/100 AF, 60Hz, 2P, 240V Molded Case Circuit Breaker

VOLTAGE DROP CALCULATION:

Voltage drop (VD) = I x (√R2 + X2) L/305
Whereas:
Z = √R2 + X2
Therefore:
Voltage Drop (VD) = I x Z X L/305
Where:
I- Line Current in AMP
Z- Effective Impedance for 8.0 mm2 Copper = 0.7
L- Length of wire / cable in meter / 305 m say 50/m

Voltage Drop = 19.24 x 0.7 x 100/305

= 4.41 Volt
% Voltage Drop = VD / Base Volt x 100
= 4.41 / 230 x 100
= 1.91 %

Short Circuit Calculation:

Isc = V/Z
Where:
Isc = Short Circuit Current
V = Base Voltage – 230 Volt
Z = Effective Impedance for 8.0 mm2 Loader – 0.7
Therefore:
ISC = 230 Volt / 0.7
= 328.57 AMP
Use breaker with higher interrupting capacity say 20KAIC
