Nicole, Anastasia and Nem’s thesis paragraphs show great growth in comparison with their initial
thesis paragraphs. This could be due to the images shown on television. The people of America also
turned against its government, at first, most Americans supported the war. The continual claims by
the government that victory was assured were starting to be taken in. For example, while the reader
knows that she is focusing on“the nature of Martha’s relationship with Lieutenant Cross,” it is
unclear what the nature of this relationship is. On average, the Americans had dropped 800 tonnes of
bombs on a daily basis, as well as rockets and missiles on military positions, bridges, roads, fuel
storehouses and other key establishments. The language used by one of the soldier’s friends can be
interpreted as a way of justifying what happened at My Lai. These were used to strip the jungle of
vegetation, but caused much more human distress. Noam Chomsky did get some things right like
that the “south was devastated”. It was. America dropped a lot of bombs on the southern jungle and
destroyed a lot of it because it was trying to get the North Vietnamese, who were hiding in the
jungle. The young soldier realised that the idea wasn't to gain terrain or help citizens but only to kill
and the pressure to do so was intense. 3. There are many hypothesises brought to light by sources C,
D and E about why the US was defeated in Vietnam. The Australian troops serving in Vietnam were
more familiar jungle and guerilla warfare than the Americans, having learned techniques in prior
experiences in Borneo and Malaya. To browse Academia.edu and the wider internet faster and more

young soldier who had his legs amputated due to a surprise attack from a village. While her
reflection on the larger significance of her thesis could be more specific and better developed, the
meat of the paper is there. They're also told that open war in not the answer and should not be
entered into unless they were one hundred percent sure of success as they realise the Americans
superiority in this department. 4. Sources F, G and I are reasonably helpful to judge public reaction
to Vietnam in the 1960's. The igniting agent, white phosphorus, continues burning for a considerable
amount of time. The first thing you can review is post dramatic stress and its relation to vietnam
veterans. All the sources effectively change the minds of the American public. Unlike the North
Vietnamese, the U.S. soldiers were not all volunteers, and this coupled with a lack of solidarity in the
military as a result of one year tours made U.S. victory uncertain for the first time in the nation’s
history. The insignificant threat to their superpower drove them to war, and drove them to failure.

(Charney, SOAS, 2016-17) Michael W Charney This is the current syllabus (2016-17) for my
Vietnam War course that I teach at SOAS, University of London. Along with the sublime history,
the richness of Vietnam is evident throughout its culture. Despite America's constant attempts to cut
off this crucial link by means of bomb raids and defoliation, the Ho Chi Minh trail remained strong
and effective. Hamer states that as the Americans walked through “rice paddies”, they were attacked
with mortar shells. This was proved through thousands of year fighting against foreign aggression.
Then, I would introduce the tourism, landscapes, some world heritage sites to them as suggestions
they in order that they would feel blood-rushing to visit the whole Vietnam. The public soon began
to notice that the body count was increasing but yet no progress was being made to over throw the
North Vietnamese. The report was delayed from 1968 until 1970, there are many different reasons
why the magazine would want to delay the release of such a gruesome story. Written literature first
appeared around the 10th-century and developed notably with prominent ancient authors such as
Nguyen Du, Nguyen Trai, Nguyen Dinh Chieu to name but a few. This essay will be a discussion of
a famous photograph from the Vietnam War by a French photographer, Marc Riboud.
They both have the same content, but their shapes are different. Helicopters were extensively utilised
by the US for various reasons, including the 'search and destroy' missions. Then, I would introduce
the tourism, landscapes, some world heritage sites to them as suggestions they in order that they
would feel blood-rushing to visit the whole Vietnam. They used booby traps, ambushes, and close
combat weapons; they were highly trained and skilled in these methods of fighting. Her thesis
statement, while containing three specific examples, an argument and a reflection on authorial
significance, could be more detailed. The Australian troops serving in Vietnam were more familiar
jungle and guerilla warfare than the Americans, having learned techniques in prior experiences in
Borneo and Malaya. What this paper is missing, however, is a bridge between the opening sentence
and the thesis statement. This kind of propaganda caused widespread protests across America. One
of their other sneaky plans was to trap the US forces in a village by getting them lead in by young
children asking for help. The most infamous of these was napalm, a mixture of petrol and a chemical
thickener which produces a tough sticky gel that attaches itself to the skin. The US and its allies
provided technical, medical and educational aid, built roads and infrastructure, and encouraged
pacification and Viet Cong desertions. The TET offensive was a massive attack by the Viet Cong
upon South Vietnam, which began on 30 January 1968. Small guerrilla units operated from bases
established in remote and inaccessible mountainous terrain and relied heavily on the support of local
inhabitants for food, shelter, recruits and information. From 1988 to 2007, Viet Nam attracted a sum
of US 83.1 one million millions in registered foreign direct investing. Acquiring the support of the
local populace was crucial to all armies involved in the conflict. So overall I think that source B is
more useful than source A as it has more reasons to be believable and it is less likely that Johnson is
exaggerating. Johnson also misses out all about Diem being unpopular and about the fixed elections
and about the rivalry the Americans have with communism. This makes it less likely that he would
be trying to hide facts. To fight off both Japanese occupiers and the French colonial administration,
political leader Ho Chi Minh. The Vietcong were experts at this type of warfare, and easily trapped
the USA military as they had been trained to fight conventional wars, which this was not. The idea
that a young girl had to literally rip her clothes off because they were burning, due to the napalm
bomb, will have. The students from the university grouped up and formed a mass protest against the
war, Within a few hours the University was burned to the ground. The television companies were
quick to jump on these as major stories and covered these events in detail. The police had to use force
to control the swelling crowd and tear gas was used. The source is also very revealing about what
Johnson really thought about Vietnam. This could be due to the fact that it was America’s war
against Vietnam, and had nothing to do with Australia. The language used by one of the soldier’s
friends can be interpreted as a way of justifying what happened at My Lai. A reported three quarters
of all napalm victims in Vietnam were burned through to the muscle and bone. The hospital also
allows itself further expansion on adjacent lots of land as well. The US soldiers where being
slaughtered and needed to change their strategy, the couldn’t use the jungle to their advantage, the
Vietnamese where using that, so they attacked from the air, they bombed the jungle, not just with
ordinary bombs, but with two different chemical substances; napalm and agent orange.
With the current situation, Vietnam is in the process of international integration with rich human
resources that are suitable for making business decisions of foreign corporations with favorable
factors but also other factors. In 1965 47 soldiers were found using drugs, and by 1970 the number
had ballooned to 11,000. First the US sent in military advisers, and then President Johnson sent in
troops in huge numbers. The trouble didn't ease form there on either as General Westmoreland was
refused another 200,000 troops to assist the half million fighting in Vietnam, the politicians weren't
happy about the request and so thought the same as the public. Johnson is speaking to the public a
month after the war has started so he can not say anything bad about the war or he would sound
stupid. He also states that “they were going to do something courageous on behalf of their country”.
It shows the difficulties of fighting a war when the civilians and the guerrilla fighters are mixed. The
picture shows an ample amount of people with banners saying “Fight poverty” and “stop all
bombing”. The price of ignorance would prove to be high, and success would not come, even with
the promise of a new opportunity. The TET offensive was a massive attack by the Viet Cong upon
South Vietnam, which began on 30 January 1968. The vietnam war research paper ideas for students
who major in history. This overpowering reaction caused the North Vietnamese to be more
determined to resist against the USA. When news of the Tet Offensive sank in, Americans jumped to
the conclusion that they had been mislead by the press and that the whole army were tricking them.
Vietnam has a history as rich as anywhere on the planet. The young soldier realised that the idea
wasn't to gain terrain or help citizens but only to kill and the pressure to do so was intense. 3. There
are many hypothesises brought to light by sources C, D and E about why the US was defeated in
Vietnam. The Vietcong dug ditches, and booby-traps to control the threat of the USA. It also in not
perfect it does have limits to how useful as a source it can be as it does not contain any details. This
was a major problem due to the increasing number of American with access to television sets,
receiving news of more and more casualties on both sides. Kennedy thought that communism was the
first stage in the country being lead in hateful dictatorship. Also it was a year before the war started
so he is not under as much pressure to talk it up, and as you can see from the source, he actually
wants to try and get out of getting in to a war. Because of its prior existence, it is clear that Nicole is
capable of writing a bridge, she just did not succeed in doing so in this assignment, a fact that
reflects partially on my own lack of clarity in explaining what a bridge is, how it functions and how it
is written. Having not been allowed over the border into Cambodia, the U.S. military’s hands were
tied in pursuing much of the enemy force. This source (Source F) was written after the My Lai
massacre. The Australian troops serving in Vietnam were more familiar jungle and guerilla warfare
than the Americans, having learned techniques in prior experiences in Borneo and Malaya. So this
source is really not all that useful as it does not give many facts or fit with the knowledge that I
already have. Other events covered by the media such as the My Lai Massacre, where many
innocent peasants were killed because there was an off-chance that some of the occupants of the
village were Vietcong, and the Kent State University Massacre, where students were killed for
protesting against the war. Small guerrilla units operated from bases established in remote and
inaccessible mountainous terrain and relied heavily on the support of local inhabitants for food,
shelter, recruits and information. Over two decades have passed since Vietnam was officially united,
and in that time it has done a remarkable job of healing its wounds. To students were shot dead. 6.
Source M was written in 1972 and was published in a British magazine called The Spectator. ARVN
forces were now baring the brunt of the casualties and action, including the operations in Cambodia.
In contrast, this one has an opening sentence, a thesis statement and no bridge. Adverse factors such
as the 4.0 technology race with the latest technologies in production and business, but skilled human
resources to use are still limited. It also tells us that the American public were thinking very strongly
about the situation in Vietnam. This makes it less likely that he would be trying to hide facts. As a
result, the entire course of the war was dramatically changed. Were they being serious or just playing
a physiological game with the south and the Americans. The television companies were quick to
jump on these as major stories and covered these events in detail. Then, I would introduce the
tourism, landscapes, some world heritage sites to them as suggestions they in order that they would
feel blood-rushing to visit the whole Vietnam. This great coverage wasn't only on television, the
pictures also made there way back to the people like the My Lai picture in source J. This topic
examines various factors in an employee that help them stay at call centers for a longer period. Also it
still does not cover all the reasons that the Americans got involved in the war. The operation rained
death upon both soldiers and civilians and continued for over three years. President Nixon was
elected as The USA’s new president, and brought the USA out of war. However, the light at the end
of the tunnel for draftees was the end of their tour, not the end of the war. The Pacific Islands and
even Australia could be at risk.” After the French were defeated in 1954, Vietnam was split in two;
the north was Communist, led by Ho Chi Minh, and the south was Capitalist under Ngo Dinh Diem.
It may have been the views of only one town or city or even one area of people, some of, which may
be poor, and not been able to afford a television set did their view count, where they mentioned. All
these events were captured by the media causing outrage among the world at how barbaric the USA
where being. Vietnamese Buddhist monks protested against American involvement by suicide,
mainly by burning themselves. This source is quite reliable because it was used in an educational
book used by American students. The loss of the war was blamed upon the military advisors and
government. But they don't tell the full story, they fail to mention sufficient detail and rarely tell
more detail than that which is needed to trick people into thinking the only thing happening in the
1960's was the Vietnam War. Then later in the same year, Truman commits the American troops to
Korea. Due to the lack of roads and the versatility of the choppers, they were used to move infantry
units, evacuate and treat casualties, transport artillery and ammunition and to launch missiles and
other attacks. This means that it is not perfect as it does not give you all the facts. For example,
Johnson does not mention anything about the South being too weak to fight the North as that would
make the government look stupid as they have been pumping lots of money into the south to make it
stronger. In the private sector, 65 percent of the 100-odd companies are headquartered in Ho Chi
Minh City, 30 percent in Hanoi, and 5 percent in other cities (Hai Phong, Vinh, Dalat, Vung Tau, and
Can Tho). This source portrays President Johnson as a man who does not keep to his word. So they
public knew a lot more of what was happening and protested and made complaints etc. The Vietcong
appeared as normal villagers having no uniform or mark to say that they were any different from the
peasants of Vietnam. Having not been allowed over the border into Cambodia, the U.S. military’s
hands were tied in pursuing much of the enemy force.
How useful are sources A to C to explain why the United States became invol. Other events covered
by the media such as the My Lai Massacre, where many innocent peasants were killed because there
was an off-chance that some of the occupants of the village were Vietcong, and the Kent State
University Massacre, where students were killed for protesting against the war. Despite America's
abundant resources and advanced technology, their various tactics such as 'search and destroy',
Operation Rolling Thunder, defoliation, air attacks, the strategic hamlet program and the winning
hearts and minds policy proved inefficient and unsuited to the environment. Also, it allowed the
Americans to be replaced with ARVN soldiers along the border, now that the threat had been
effectively neutralized. In particular, the storyline consists of a young soldier who had his legs
amputated due to a surprise attack from a village. Americans honor military veterans for their service
sacrifice and commitment. It is evident that he has now become a conscientious objector to the war.
You can download the paper by clicking the button above. They used booby traps, ambushes, and
close combat weapons; they were highly trained and skilled in these methods of fighting. The most
infamous of these was napalm, a mixture of petrol and a chemical thickener which produces a tough
sticky gel that attaches itself to the skin. The harsh American public who had thought that a win was
a sure thing didn't want to admit defeat. However, real life was not so paradisiacal; as Vietnam’s
early history-like its recent history-is characterized by a nearly continuous struggle for autonomy. The
Vietcong dug ditches, and booby-traps to control the threat of the USA. The photographs in this
gallery focus on a calamitous March 31, 1965... The War in Vietnam - A Story in Photographs asks
students to analyze the photographs from the Vietnam War shown above. The poor US policies and
tactic as well as the effectiveness of the strategies applied by the communist forces ultimately
resulted in the US with. He also states that “they were going to do something courageous on behalf
of their country”. Newspapers, magazines, the radio and the television all were against the war, and
influenced the public to go against it too. The Vietcong dug ditches, and booby-traps to control. You
would also expect Johnson to lie in this source as he is trying to make the war sound good to the
public. There is no mention of Diem or the strength of the North and the weakness of the south and
the provenance of all three of the sources makes them not 100% believable. The full brutality of the
combat will be there in close-up and in colour, and blood looks very red on the colour television
screen”. If 1969 had seemed like a step in the wrong direction to the soldiers in Vietnam, 1970 was
going to see the consequences of that step. I am also not entirely convinced that Johnson is telling the
whole truth. Some ended nastily when the National Guard was called to control the protests, several
students were shot. The troops weren't willing to put there lives at risk for no reason, as they knew
that it was only a matter of time before they were off again back to America, fair enough I think.
One of those reasons could be that the magazine producers didn't want to make a couple of members
of there own force (US) look like cold-hearted fiends. Early on in 1961 General Maxwell Taylor, who
was so Military Advisor to John F. When the US forces were all in the village exits were covered and
men murdered, this was a major advantage as in doing this hardly any Vietcong troops were killed
where as to kill this number of Americans in open combat would surely see many Vietcong troops
dead. The Vietnamese guerrilla warfare tactic would have certainly added to the fear and help them
win the war psychologically. Banh chung is popular in the North, while in the south, people use the
similar Banh Tet instead.
It also in not perfect it does have limits to how useful as a source it can be as it does not contain any
details. In 1956 the French leave the war and America are fully in charge, it is also their duty to train
the South Vietnamese. The people found out about this and protested against it. But even together
these sources are limited they still don’t mention all the reason America joined the war and if
Johnson is still talking to someone who he can't say what he really thinks then they do not really
back each other up at all. The world media did not approve, and quickly turned the world against
this war, and the reasoning’s behind it. It is besides considered by some to be the most controversial.

strongly about the situation in Vietnam. There is also another soldier taking a photograph behind the
children, which begs the question: If the war is against communism, why are children being targeted.
This is where Truman said that America would help any country fight off the communists if they
attacked them. This could be due to the images shown on television. Unlike Source D, this is a real
photograph taken by an American photographer. Having not been allowed over the border into
Cambodia, the U.S. military’s hands were tied in pursuing much of the enemy force. It was the only
successful method fro a small nation to fight against a super-power such as America, which was
vastly superior in the number of ground troops available and technology. The idea that a young girl
had to literally rip her clothes off because they were burning, due to the napalm bomb, will have.
This war had a huge affect on the population of America in the sense that it was the first war shown
on television. As well as explosive bombs the US air force dropped a considerable number of
incendiary devices. The TET offensive was a massive attack by the Viet Cong upon South Vietnam,
which began on 30 January 1968. Artillery bombardments were also used to weaken targets before
soldiers and weaponry vehicles entered the area. It also tells us about the way that young Americans
were enticed to fight by a fighting minded Kennedy. The North Vietnamese were assassinating 4000
South Vietnamese government officials a year. Despite the western effort, it was ultimately the
Northern forces that were successful in gaining the allegiance of the majority of the civil population.
Johnson also talks about many other reasons America joined the war, like The Domino Theory and
Political legacy. As this thesis will demonstrate, the ideas that crystallized into action at Nuremberg
played a major role in this resistance. This essay will be a discussion of a famous photograph from
the Vietnam War by a French photographer, Marc Riboud. Massacre is a word that comes to mind
when you read about some of the stories that emerged from Vietnam. In April 1969, 12% of the
Australian public were undecided. It was the only successful method fro a small nation to fight
against a super-power such as America, which was vastly superior in the number of ground troops
available and technology. All the sources effectively change the minds of the American public.
